PREFACE

This book is intended for those who wish to heighten their knowledge of
the Tarot to a level where they are able to perform readings to a
professional standard.

Subjects studied include the encouragement of chosen conditions into our

life with the assistance of the cards (magic) and the Tarot's link with the
crystal kingdom, plus the Qabalah. Guidance is given on using intuition
and the importance of psychic protection. Mention is made of
Tetragrammatons and their use in understanding the structure of the Tarot.
Lastly, a section is set aside with advice on turning professional.

This book is the third in a trilogy which guide the reader from complete
novice to accomplished professional. It includes information used in my
Advanced Tarot workshops and serves as a tool for those not able to attend
or who opt to learn at their own pace.

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the magical world of the Tarot! It is a world without

beginning and without end, embracing all of mankind's thoughts, feelings,
actions and desires. Indeed the Tarot is the story of mankind and our
journey through life at all levels – physical, emotional, spiritual and
psychological. Hence its universal appeal as we are each blessed with the
ability to link with the images portrayed in the cards, having their roots
anchored deep within our psyche and the Universal mind.

The language of the Tarot is that of symbolism, an unspoken language

understood by all. As individuals we are constantly learning about
ourselves and our life path, yet we remain part of the greater whole. Once
we are better able to understand ourselves and the reasoning behind the
choices we make, we are then better equipped to comprehend the role
chosen for us (or rather by us) in our journey through life.

Learning the Tarot allows us to identify and understand the signposts

along the way. It is far more than a tool for divination. It assists us in
discovering facets of our own personality and those of others, together
with every conceivable situation in life. It also assists us in connecting
with our spiritual path – the true journey of the soul.

Welcome to the voyage of discovery.

8
MAGIC AND THE TAROT
On hearing the word 'magic' many people think of witches or spells. But
magic is simply the focusing of our energy to effect change in our physical
life. Meditation and affirmations are thus forms of magic.

A magician's tools are symbols, present in all Tarot cards. A symbol is a

key to another dimension. The more aware we are of the language of
symbolism the more accessible the spiritual world and higher dimensions.

Nothing is accidental or incidental, everything is the result of cause and

has its origins on the inner planes of the mind. Meditation and
concentration affect our astral, emotional and mental bodies, which in turn
directly affect our physical world. Thus, by changing our inner thought
patterns we can encourage changes in our physical life.

When reading the Tarot we are reading spirit through the symbolism
within the cards, especially Major cards. This is why Major Arcana cards
are often called keys, as they open doorways in your mind and allow you
to step over into the archetypal world.

To conduct magic (or instil a chosen outcome) choose a Major Arcana

card and tap into its core meaning. For three mornings and evenings in
succession visualise the positive effects of the card. Do not disclose your
thoughts to anyone as this will weaken the intent.

Select the card(s) to be used for this purpose by focusing on the areas of
your life in which you would welcome a positive result. Suggested
outcomes are mentioned overleaf.

11
circumstances.

WORLD
Completion of a project. Travel, opportunity. Fulfilment.

Working with the Major Arcana cards in this way sows the seeds for future
outcomes and sufficient time should be allowed for these to materialise.
Nothing is instant: we need to project our thoughts out before they can
return to us in material form. The important issue is intent.

More than one card can be chosen, though it is preferable to work with
them singularly. Choose one which best suits your needs, focus on it for
the prescribed time, then allow a little while to pass before moving on to
another. It is important to acknowledge that we function in the present and
should not place too much of our focus on the future.

12
CRYSTALS AND THE TAROT

Another dimension to Tarot reading is that of working with crystals, which

can be done for divination or to enhance the reading process. You can
align a crystal to each Major Arcana card to enable you to do a reading
without even shuffling the cards. First decide which crystal you associate
with each card. There is no hard and fast rule to this and it really does
come down to personal preference.

One method is to place all twenty-two crystals in a bag and focus on each
Major Arcana card for a few minutes before 'dipping in' to see which
crystal has picked up the energies of the card. Once selected, place the
crystal on top of the card and repeat the process until all twenty-two have
been withdrawn. Remember to make note of your Crystal Tarot in a
notebook for reference. Alternately you can assign each card to a crystal
dependent on their natural qualities. For this purpose a crystal workbook
would be useful.

JOURNEY THROUGH THE CHAKRAS

In my Intermediate Handbook mention was made of the seven energy

centres in the etheric body known as chakras - vortexes of energy aligned
with the physical spine and linked by a central channel named sushumna.
Tethered to the spinal cord, but running down either side of the anterior
bodies of the vertebral column, are chains of ganglion numbering twenty-
two on average. This correlates with the number of Major Arcana cards
in a Tarot deck, the twenty-two paths on the Tree of Life, the twenty-two
letters in the Hebrew alphabet, and with the twenty-bones of the skull.

The spinal column and accompanying lengths of ganglion can also be seen
as three channels of energy which maintain the chakras, known
respectively as sushumna, ida and pingala.
Sushumna
The major central nadi corresponding to the spinal cord and through which
spiritual energy (kundalini) ascends to meet with sahasrara (crown
chakra).
Ida
Runs up the left side of the spinal column conveying the feminine,
intuitive energy. It exits from the left nostril and is a trigger for right brain
hemisphere functions.
Pingala
Runs up the right side of the spinal column conveying masculine, logical
energy. It exits from the right nostril and is a trigger for left brain
hemisphere functions.

The diagram shows the two energy currents, ida and pingala, meeting in
the first six chakras. The third current, sushumna, is implied by the
vertical alignment of the seven chakras. In yogic tradition each current
relates to a different one of the three sacred rivers: ida to Ganga, pingala
to Yamuna, and sushumna to an underground river called Sarasvati. These
three rivers met at a place called Muladhara, the Hindu name for the base
chakra. In the base chakra the three energies are found together.

Though starting out together at the base chakra the three energies must
separate in order to be distinguishable. Thus ida snakes off to the left

21
whilst pingala draws to the right, leaving sushumna to ascend vertically.
They only remain separate, however, until they reach the second (or
sacral) chakra, where ida and pingala once again converge on the central
path of sushumna. Following this union the currents separate once more,
only to converge again at the third (or solar plexus) chakra. This pattern of
convergence and separation continues up to the sixth (or brow) chakra
where a balance is attainable between the male and female energies.
Where this balance occurs the seventh (or crown) chakra opens
automatically. This is shown in as a thousand petal lotus.

The process of the energies at the base of the spine awakening and
ascending is also found in the West, where it is symbolised by the
Caduceus (below), which features twin serpents coiling around a staff.
The Caduceus originally appeared in the hand of Thoth, the Egyptian God
of Knowledge. It then passed to Thoth's equivalent in Greek mythology,
Hermes, before coming to Aesculapius, the God of Healing. In this way it
has become the symbol of the Western medical profession.

22
The chakras play a vital role in the intake of life energies and can be
stimulated in various ways to enhance psychic development. In my
Intermediate Handbook we looked at visualising a white light beaming
down from the universe to the top of the head which allows each chakra to
open in turn (base upwards).

An alternative method is to focus on their concrete qualities of colour

(raga), form (rupa), name (nama), geometric shap (yantra) and vibration
(mantra). This format brings in differing colours for the chakras to those
with which they are widely associated but may be of interest to anyone
who finds it easier to focus on an object as opposed to visualising doors
opening or buds unfolding etc. It is formally known as Chakra Dharna
and comprises :

23
Many Tarot readers use one of the above procedures, or indeed create their
own, to practise opening the chakras in readiness for work. This is not an
essential part of reading but does allow the bodily vibration to raise and
thus induce heightened receptivity to the symbolic messages emanating
from the cards. It is a matter of personal choice whether you consciously
work with the chakras or not, but you will doubtless find your energy
vibration is raised when working with the cards as you will absorb the
language of symbolism, if only at a subconscious level.

24
PSYCHIC PROTECTION

If you choose to activate your chakras in preparation for reading it is

important to close them down after divination. One way is to visualise a
light being switched off in each chakra, petals closing on a flower, or a
door being closed.

This 'closing down' process should be done in reverse order to the 'opening
up' namely crown to base, each chakra being sealed and the energy
dropping down into the one beneath. Once all energies have reached the
base chakra send it down the legs, through the feet and into the centre of
the universe.

You can further protect your aura by one of the following techniques:

Visualising yourself stepping into a sleeping bag and zipping it up all

around you;

Asking Archangel Michael (the warrior) to surround you with his blue
cloak of protection;

Invoking your spirit guide and/or guardian angel and asking them to keep
you safe from all negative vibrations;

Invoking the golden ray of Christ by requesting three times and then
saying 'It is done, so be it'.

It is often the case that people do not concern themselves with psychic
protection in the early stages of their learning. It is, however, important to
remember that the Tarot acts not only as a tool for divination but also for
enhancing psychic awareness. Indeed, when you read the cards for
someone other than yourself you are connecting with their energy field and
it is therefore commonsense that you need to withdraw at the end of the
reading. Failure to do so allows the energies of another to remain within
your aura. Bearing in mind that the majority of people seek guidance from
the cards at times of discord or indecision in their lives it is vital that you
do not allow them to offload their problems onto you.

When dealing with groups of people your chakras will undoubtedly remain

25
open until the conclusion of the session, but it is important to disconnect
from each person in turn in order not to overlap readings. I personally do
this by saying quietly "I give back all energies which are not mine" three
times between each client. In addition I re-ground myself at the
termination of all my readings, whether one or a group, and ask to be
disconnected from those I have read.

Should you ever find yourself feeling 'spaced out' after reading and cannot
seem to re-ground yourself, bounce your feet firmly on the ground or clap
your hands; both these actions help to awaken your physical senses. You
can follow this up by eating something sweet to direct the blood supply to
your stomach.

Do not be alarmed by reading the above! The aim is to prepare yourself

for reading by opening up your chakras and attuning with your guides and
angels (if consciously working with these). This allows you to temporarily
connect with the energies of the individual(s) you are reading before
disconnecting and re-grounding at their conclusion. Providing you have
taken on board some means of psychic protection there should be no
adverse influence on your personal auric field.

26
THE TREE OF LIFE (QABALAH)

"Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding,
for she is more profitable than silver and yields better return than gold.
She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with
her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand riches and honour.
Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of
life to those who embrace her, those who lay hold of her will be blessed."
Proverbs 3:13-18

The Qabalah is an ancient Jewish system of spiritual knowledge derived

from sacred texts which serves to acquaint all those who seek 'the secrets
of the faith' with the divine essence within themselves.

The word Qabalah can be spelt in different ways; Kabbalah in the Jewish
tradition, Cabala in the Christian, and Qabalah in the Western. Whichever
spelling is used the meaning remains static – "to receive and to reveal".

The Qabalah has two sources of origin – one mystical, one factual. The
mystical story deals with its conception and growth whereas the factual
one relates to the Qabalah's history since the birth of Christ.

The Mystical Story

The mystical story refers to a light, loving female energy that wanted to
share all Her love. To do so she created a male counterpart and together
this was known as the Mother-Father deity. It was this deity which first
instructed the angels in the secrets of the Qabalah. Only then was
humankind, the world, and all that inhabits it created.

The angels, following the fall from grace, agreed to share the secrets of the
Qabalah with humans to they could create their own paradise. Sadly, few
listened or applied this knowledge to their lives, and it was not long before
the secrets perished.

One of the secrets taught to the angels was the holy name of God. There
are seventy-two names in the Bible which refer to God, but only one holds
the secrets of the entire Qabalah. This name is Jehovah and consists of
four Hebrew letters (IHVH). It is better known as the Tetragrammaton.

27
I Yod, Fire, King Father Intuition Creative
H Heh, Water, Queen Mother Feeling Receptive
V Vau, Air, Knight Son Thinking Formative
H Heh, Earth, Page Daughter Sensation Material

This secret was revealed to Abraham when he was given the Qabalah by
God. Abraham passed the knowledge on to Isaac and Jacob, who in turn
revealed it to Joseph. Unfortunately Joseph died before he could impart
the knowledge and, again, the chain was broken.

However, God decided that the knowledge would be revealed to those who
attain a certain level of spiritual development. Moses was chosen as such
a person, and during the forty days and forty nights he spent with God not
only the Ten Commandments were revealed to him but also the Qabalah
verbally. Moses wrote down his understanding of God's world and this
forms the first four books of the Old Testament, often referred to as the
Torah (greater law).

After the time of Moses a group of enlightened men started a mystical

school where they taught and learned more about the practical side of the
Qabalah. This schooling was held in secret and for a chosen few only.
Indeed, until quite recently the Qabalah was reserved for Jewish men over
forty and passed down verbally.

The Factual Story

This follows the mystical story but embraces Qabalistic teachings from
three main books.
The first is the Sepher Yetzirah, better known as the Book of Formation.
Some believe that Abraham kept aside a number of secrets before passing
on the knowledge and that the Sepher Yetzirah is nothing more than these
secrets, discovered and re-written by a man called Rabbi Akiba prior to the
sixth century AD.

The second book is called the Zohar or Book of Splendour. Some believe
that a student of Rabbi Akiba wrote the Zohar while others believe it to
have been written during the Spanish Inquisition by a man called B
Rambam. The Spanish Inquisition was a fearful time for the enlightened
elders as not only did they fear for their lives, but also that the knowledge
of the Qabalah would once again be lost.

28
The third book, the Sepher Bahir, is known as the Book of Brilliance and
was written in Spain during the thirteenth century AD. It is believed to be
one of the most important Qabalistic teachings.

Both the Sepher Yetzirah and Zohar stress the importance of the feminine
and masculine sides of God, whereas the Sepher Bahir describes the
universe as a multi-layered reality in which all parts are connected and
governed by a higher law.

In the Qabalah it is believed that out of nothing (or negative existence)

creation emanates from the Godhead in a great flash termed the 'Path of
the Lightening Flash' (see diagram).

Along this path are ten emanations of God referred to as Holy Sephiroth.

29
Each of the ten Sephiroth shows differing manifestations of divine energy
from the first, Kether, to the last, Malkuth (the equivalent of our physical
body and senses). They combine to illustrate one divine being, and as man
is made in the image of God he contains within him all the powers of the
Sephiroth.

1 Kether
Kether is supreme unity, before which nothing exists. It lies at the head of
the Pillar of Equilibrium and is neither masculine nor feminine. It is

emotions. It lies on the pillar of mercy and connects with the realms of
empathy for the feelings of others. Netzach is positive and masculine. It
connects with the planet Venus. Its keyword is victory and its colour
green.
8 Hod
The eighth emanation represents logic, order and structured thought. It
lies on the pillar of severity and connects with careful planning and

31
making deductions. Hod is negative and feminine. It connects with the
planet Mercury. Its keyword is splendour and its colour orange.
9 Yesod
The ninth emanation represents the seat of our animal instincts, especially
procreation. It lies on the pillar of equilibrium and connects with physical
desires, comfort and stimulation. Yesod is neither masculine nor
feminine. It connects with the planet Moon. Its keyword is foundation
and its colour is violet.
10 Malkuth
The tenth emanation on the Tree of Life represents the physical reality of
life, including mortality. It lies on the pillar of equilibrium and connects
with survival issues. Malkuth is neither masculine nor feminine. It
connects with planet Earth. Its keyword is kingdom and its colour is
brown.

Each of the ten sephiroth also correspond to the numbered cards of the
Minor Arcana in the Tarot, and the relationship between the two systems
will be studied deeper later .

As the divine energy passes down the Path of the Lightening Flash, and
before reaching the sephiroth, it encounters three veils – these being
symbolic and referred to as Ain, Ain Soph, Ain Soph Aur or nothingness,
limitlessness, limitless light respectively. They are seen as three separate arc
shaped lines resembling a rainbow and are known collectively as the
negative veil.

32
Above this veil is The Unmanifest which is the root of the Tree of Life in
that it is the place from which all manifestation originates. It is devoid of
form as we know it and thus beyond the scope of our minds, which are
shaped by boundaries of a finite reality.

The Triangles
The top three sephiroth (Kether, Chokmah, Binah) are called the Supernals
and together form the Supernal Triangle. The Supernals represent ideal
states which are attainable during very peaceful periods, or extra-sensory
states when all sephiroth below are in total balance and harmony.
The second, or Ethical Triangle is formed by Chesod, Geburah and

33
Tipareth. Whereas the Supernal Triangle relates purely to spiritual
awareness, the Ethical Triangle brings form to the spirit and corresponds to
our feelings. The Ethical Triangle points downwards and is thus a
reflection of the Supernal Triangle.
The third, or Astral Triangle is formed by Netzach, Hod and Yesod. It
also points downwards (towards Earth) and symbolically this shows how
we as individuals manifest in the physical world.

The Unnumbered Sephiroth

It should be observed that the Supernal Triangle is separated from the two
below by an unnumbered sephiroth called Daath. Daath lies in the Abyss
and is the gate to the reverse side of the Tree of Life known as the Tree of
Evil, which is an area from which demons and diseases come. It is said
that whatever passes through the Abyss is the opposite to what lies above
it. Everything below the Abyss has duality – positive and negative; all that
lies above the Abyss is without duality.

Daath relates to knowledge, which requires the understanding of Binah

and wisdom of Chokmah to be used effectively. Without this we cannot
raise our level of consciousness into the realms of the Supernal Triangle
and thus spiritual enlightenment.

34
The Four Worlds
The Tree of Life is divided into four worlds:
1 ATZILUTH - Kether
2 BRIAH - Chokmah, Binah
3 YETZIRAH-Chesed, Geburah, Tipareth, Netzach, Hod, Yesod
4 ASSIAH - Malkuth

connected to the four letters of the Holy name IVHV.

The first world ATZILUTH is represented by Yod and Fire, and relates to
creative energy.

The second world BRIAH is represented by the first Heh and Water, and

35
relates to receptive energy.

The third world YETZIRAH is represented by Vau and Air, and relates to
formative energy.

The fourth world ASSIAH is represented by the second Heh and Earth,
and relates to material energy.

The Three Pillars

The ten sephiroth form three vertical pillars.

To the right is the Pillar of Mercy - Chokmah, Chesed and Netzach.

To the left is the Pillar of Severity - Binah, Geburah and Hod.

To the centre lies the Pillar of Equilibrium - Kether, Tipareth, Yesod and
Malkuth.

Pillar of Mercy
Masculine and positive. Right side of body, left side of the brain.

36
Pillar of Severity
Feminine and negative. Left side of the body, right side of brain.
Pillar of Equilibrium
Central channel within us, connecting Heaven and Earth. All other
branches of the Tree of Life link to the middle pillar.

The three pillars, like the three veils above the Tree of Life, refer to three
ways in which force can manifest:

(1) active (masculine)

(2) passive (feminine)
(3) equal.

37
The Tarot's Link to the Tree of Life
The first connection between the Tarot and the Qabalah was made in 1856
by Eliphas Levi who noted the correspondence between the twenty-two
Major Arcana cards and the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
Having read the Sepher Yetzirah, he was convinced the secret wisdom of
the Qabalah was concealed in the symbolism of the Tarot cards. This
connection stands firms in that long before the Tarot was created the
number twenty-two had come to encapsulate totality. Levi also linked the
remainder of the Tarot deck to the Tree of Life in that each of the
numbered sephiroth has a number which correlates with one of the ten
numbered cards in each of the four Minor Arcana suits. He also noted that
the four suits correspond to the four Worlds of Creation, as do the four
court cards within each suit.

The Tree of Life has twenty-two pathways that link the ten spheres. There
are thirty-two pathways in total (nos 11-32): the sephiroth being the first
ten and the lines joining them the remaining twenty-two. The latter are

38
referred to as the 'paths'.

The journey of our consciousness is known as 'pathworking'; this journey

reunites us with our true roots, which are divine in nature. We begin with
Path 32 since it is closest to our physical senses.

The table below highlights the twenty-two paths and the sephiroth they
connect, together with their corresponding Major Arcana card and Hebrew
letter.

11 Kether – Chokmah FOOL ALEPH total centre column

12 Kether – Binah MAGICIAN BETH right eye

This can be seen more clearly in the diagram below.

39
The numbered cards of the four Minor Arcana suits in the Tarot link to
each of the ten sephiroth as follows:

1s (Ace) Kether
2s Chokmah
3s Binah
4s Chesed
5s Geburah
6s Tipareth
7s Netzach
8s Hod
9s Yesod

40
10s Malkuth

Once again, this can be seen more clearly in the following diagram.

The four court cards in each minor suit are allocated as follows:

PAGES - Malkuth
KNIGHTS -Tipareth
QUEENS - Binah
KINGS - Chokmah

The Four Worlds and the Four Tarot Suits

The concept of the Four Worlds is that they are separate but overlap in
time and space. Visualise four trees, each one superimposed on the next,
which combine to make a complete whole.

In much the same way the four suits of the Minor Arcana combine to make

41
a complete whole, and thus each of the Minor Tarot suits correlates with
each of the Four Worlds in the Tree of Life, as follows:
st Yod ATZILUTH Father FIRE WANDS
1
World
nd Heh BRIAH Mother WATER CUPS
2
World
rd Vau YETZIRAH Son AIR SWORDS
3
World
th Heh ASSIAH Daughter EARTH PENTACLES
4
World

We can therefore see that within the Tree of Life are Four Worlds as
viewed horizontally –

in addition to Four Worlds seen depth-wise.

42
The Chakras and the Tree of Life

Mention was made earlier of the seven main chakras, which are vortexes
of energy aligned with the physical spine. Each chakra has an associated
colour, sound and body area:

CHAKRA COLOUR SOUND GLAND

MULADHARA Red LAM testes/ovary
(root/base)

43
SVADISTHANA Orange VAM Adrenals
(sacral)
MANIPURA (solar Yellow RAM Pancreas
plexus)
ANAHATA Green YAM Thymus
(heart)
VISHUDDI Blue HAM Thyroid
(throat)
AJNA (third Indigo OHM Pituitary
eye)
SAHASRARA Violet SOHAM Pineal
(crown)

The chakras are linked to the Tree of Life as follows:

1 Kether - Sahasrara
2,3 Binah, Chokmah - Ajna
Daath - Vishuddi
4.5.6 Geburah, Chesed, Tipareth - Anahata
7,8 Hod, Netzach - Manipura
9 Yesod - Svadisthana
10 Malkuth - Muladhara

The diagram below portrays this in visual form:

44
Likewise, the Tree of Life can be overlaid on the physical body:

TETRAGRAMMATONS

The Tetragrammaton is the universal principle of great law and is the

symbolic language of the Tarot. Symbolism is a vital component of the
Tarot as symbols activate the subconscious mind by opening doors into the
hidden recesses of the soul. All symbols have an organic effect on an
individual and therefore create an awareness which is unique to each of
us. Thus, just as each person is unique, so is their recall of the message
which the symbolism in the cards instils. Symbolism acts as a stimulus
which awakens our intuitive faculties, leading to an understanding which
lies beyond the scope of the intellect. As the mind explores these images it
uncovers meanings and significances which cannot be fully defined or
brought completely into the light of reason. A large part of the enduring
value of the cards lies in the fact that their imagery cannot be fixed or
typecast and can never be fully comprehended – they offer new and
original insights to everyone who studies them and will continue to do
indefinitely.

The Tetragrammaton, like the Tree of Life, has three columns – active,
passive, neutral – or Yod, Heh, Vau in Hebrew – which are each assigned
seven Major Arcana cards. These 3 x 7 groupings are often referred to as
Serpentaries and comprise the following cards:

Serpentary 1 (YOD) – Active

FOOL, EMPEROR, CHARIOT, WHEEL OF FORTUNE, DEATH, TOWER,
SUN

Serpentary 2 (HEH) – Passive

HIGH PRIESTESS, HIEROPHANT, STRENGTH, JUSTICE, TEMPERANCE,
STAR, JUDGEMENT

Serpentary 3 (VAU) – Neutral

EMPRESS, LOVERS, HERMIT, HANGED MAN, DEVIL, MOON, WORLD

The above groupings are more clearly visibly by placing the name of each
card alongside its number.

47
The Tetragrammaton incorporates seven triangles and is based on a
process of activation (No 1 – Yod), passivity (No 2 – Heh), neutrality (No
3 – Vau), and the beginning of the next 'body' (No 4 – Heh). This
grouping of four links one triangle into another, the completion of one
being the beginning of the next, until the end is reached, at which point it
begins again – just as the Fool card is both beginning and end of the cycle
of life within the Major Arcana cards.
In any grouping of four there are associations:
Four seasons
Four astrological elements
Four suits in the Minor Arcana
and the Tetragrammaton can be continued to incorporate the four minor
suits. Indeed, each suit is given a corresponding number:
1 = Wands or Yod

48
2 = Cups or Heh
3 = Swords or Vau
4 = Pentacles or Heh
This can be extended to the court cards:
Knights = Fire or Yod
Queens = Water or Heh
Kings = Air or Vau
Pages = Earth or Heh
----------------------------------------------------------
Note: On the Wheel of Fortune the letters ROTA are interspersed with the four
Hebrew letters of the Tetragrammaton – Yod, Heh, Vau, Heh – suggesting that
everything which goes around comes around.
----------------------------------------------------------
The seven triangles within the Tetragrammaton can be linked to the seven
chakras.
Let us look at each of the seven triangles which form the Tetragrammaton:

Triangle 1
Man's spirit is divine but imprisoned in a physical body. A messenger
from higher spheres demonstrates his mastery of the material world and
becomes both teacher and companion to the Fool (1 – Magician). Before
liberation he must deal with the element within him which requires
nurturing through the female influences in his life, celestial and terrestrial,
as found in the High Priestess (2) and Empress (3) respectively. He is
then ready to assert himself (Emperor - 4).

Triangle 2
Having been nurtured he makes a standpoint in life (4 – Emperor) on the
physical level, but also needs to do this inwardly (5 – Hierophant) in
order that he is prepared to make choices in life (6 – Lovers). This
requires seeing both sides of situations and persevering with his decisions
once made (7 – Chariot).

Triangle 3
Having surmounted challenges of everyday existence (7 – Chariot) he
next has to overcome physical urges and cope with incumbent problems (8
– Strength) before entering a period of introspection on his journey

49
through life so far (9 – Hermit). This allows him to then begin the
journey back to his spiritual home (10 – Wheel of Fortune).

Triangle 4
Having 're-tuned' himself, he now seeks a more balanced approach to life
(11 – Justice) which may require the relinquishment of those areas or
people who no longer serve any true purpose (12 – Hanged Man). This
enables him to bring to a natural conclusion any such areas in his life (13 –
Death).

Triangle 5
The above process of transformation (13 – Death) leads to an influx of
spiritual energy (14 – Temperance) which enables him to face and defeat
his inner shadow (15 – Devil). This leads to the shattering of his earthly
prison (16 – Tower).

Triangle 6
Having shattered illusionary concepts from his life (16 – Tower) he sees a
new way forward (17 – Star) as his spirit ascends. However, this may
cause temporary confusion (18 – Moon) but his reward will be renewed
vigour, energy and action (19 – Sun).

Triangle 7
Resurgence leads to spiritual re-birth (20 – Judgement) and completion of
this incarnation (21 – World) which leads to a new voyage on the planes
of existence (0 – Fool).

The cards in the active column can be seen to be where an initiation is

required, the cards in the passive column where a retrospective approach is
required, and the cards in the neutral column a combination of both, which
will lead to a second degree of initiation (second Heh – Earth), and so on
down the Tetragrammaton.
Just like the wheel on the Wheel of Fortune suggests cycles of life, so the
Tetragrammaton does but within an overall theme of continuity, just like
life repeats and the spiritual journey through the Major Arcana cards
repeats.

ADVANCED SPREADS

51
AURA SPREAD
With this spread you can penetrate the protective barrier of the ego and zoom directly into
specific areas of the psyche.

Card 1 - Mental Concerns

The client's mental state. Try to avoid any intrusion on their emotional level here. Direct your
focus on their thinking process.

Card 2 - Internal Conflict

The client's internal dilemma. Moral issues can also be found in this card.

Card 3 - Contributing Forces

Influences, both invited and uninvited. These are normally the opinions of others.

Card 4 - The Client's Port or Storm

At this point in the reading try to determine whether your client has a port of refuge or whether
they are floundering in a storm.

Card 5 - Emotional Foundations

The emotional level on which your client based his original concern. This card allows you
access to the emotional conditions that created your client's concerns in position 1.

52
Card 6 - Next 24 Hours

The direction your client is likely to take.

Card 7 - Power of the Ego

This card shows you a strong overview of your client's feeling of self. You will begin to see
whether they are moving forwards or backwards in life.

Card 8 - Insight into Home and/or Work Patterns

This card should give you insight into the client's advantages and liabilities of a factual nature
on the work or home front.

Card 9 - Time Cycle

The card in position 9 should be activated within one month in order to release the client from
their present dilemma. It denotes the ending of an old cycle. A positive card in this position
indicates the conclusion of a long term karmic lesson. A negative card shows a reluctance to do
so.

Card 10 - Conclusion of the Above 10 Cards

The conclusion of both mental and emotional energies coming together, thereby creating a
nucleus for future endeavours.

The second part of the Aura Spread looks toward the immediate future and shows events which
will allow the client to release themselves from the past.

Card 11 - Mental Challenge from the Past

A deeper look into the client's past. Once any problems lingering here are dealt with, they will
be more able to move into the future.

Card 12 - Hidden Personality Weakness

A delicate area, but one which needs to be recognised and accepted by the client. Acceptance
brings release.

Card 13 - Path to the Future

The road sign pointing to the client's future. If a positive card is placed here it means they have
learnt their lessons from the past; if a negative card, they have not.

Card 14 - Karmic Challenge from the Past

Whatever the challenge is, your client will have brought it with them into this life as part of
their karmic heritage. Often it is deeply hidden but can prove revealing and thereby encourage
the client to move forward in life.

Card 15 - Overlooked Opportunities and Potential

Sometimes we simply need to be told of lost opportunities in order to realise

53
them ourselves and do something about it.

Card 16 - Undisclosed Factors

This card divulges things that have been hidden from your client - situations, people,
opportunities. Although undisclosed, this does not mean they are unavailable: it may simply
require effort to acquire them. Illuminates the unknown.

Card 17 - Prosperity Path

Reveals the path your client should be on.

Card 18 - What to Leave Behind

Highlights those areas in life which need to be left behind in order to find happiness in the
future.

TURNING PROFESSIONAL

For many people reading the cards is a hobby, but once others learn of
your interest you will doubtless be asked to perform readings for them
too. You do need to decide whether you wish to offer readings to the
public or keep your interest at a personal level. It is very tempting to try
out your new found skill on family and friends – indeed the practice can be
helpful – but once you start reading for 'friends of friends' you are
essentially reading the general public and need to define boundaries.
Remember: do not be coerced into reading for others if it does not feel
right for you. Follow your instinct – not their demands.

Once you decide to read for others, and have undertaken sufficient
training, then you will need to find premises to read from. Working from
home can be very convenient and also very tempting, but there are issues
you need to look at:

1 Is there a Deed of Covenant which prevents you running a

business from home?

2 You will need to advise the Local Authority as your council tax
band may be affected (it really is better to do this yourself than have
someone do it for you);

3 If you have a mortgage on your property check the smallprint of

the lender's agreement to determine the existence or otherwise of a
clause which may prevent you from running a business from a
mortgaged property;

4 Check parking facilities – do you have room for extra cars without
blocking the access of your neighbours to their driveways etc;

5 If people are to arrive for readings collectively where will you

seat those waiting to be read? Think twice before placing them in
your lounge etc, particularly if there are other family members to
consider, as you may not mind complete strangers in your house but
they might – particularly if they are expected to make small-talk with
them;

60
6 However trusting your outlook, you have to accept that by
allowing the general public into your house you are putting yourself at
risk. Take obvious security precautions by not having any of your
prize ornaments on display and not booking appointments with
members of the opposite sex when unaccompanied.

Working from home can have many advantages, particularly if you dislike
travelling any distance, and more so on cold winter's evenings.

Should you decide to hire premises you will need to find a room which
feels comfortable to work in and agree a suitable rent. Days and times of
hire will need to be agreed unless you rent a room on a permanent basis.
In this case check out whether you are expected to maintain the premises
yourself in good decorative order or whether this responsibility lies with
the landlord. Check who pays the utility bills. It is better to know in
advance so you can focus your mind on the task in hand.

Once a reading room has been established you will need to consider the
charge(s) you are to make for your readings. If you are to do party
bookings and travel to clients' houses you should take travel costs into
consideration. Most people expect to pay a little more for you to travel to
them as fuel is expensive, but don't omit travelling time. If, for example,
you are spending one hour travelling each way to a venue (total two hours)
you could technically have done a number of readings in that time had you
not been on the road. Multiply that factor by a couple of times per week
and you will soon realise just how much time can be spent travelling.

Wherever you choose to work it is important to clear the energies of each

client before beginning a reading for the next. We looked at this earlier
under the heading 'Psychic Protection'. Please take this on board as it is
important not to fudge one person's reading with another. Equally
important, you should clear the energies within your reading room on a
regular basis – smudging with sage or room spray, Tibetan bells, or
playing spiritual music are all means of doing this.

Will you allow people to record their readings? If so, will you provide the
equipment or ask them to bring their own?

How will you bring your readings to a conclusion? It is important that

your clients know when their reading has finished without having to resort

61
to clock watching.

Will you take payment at the beginning or end of a reading? Will you take
cash only? If you intend to have a credit card machine remember these
have to be hired and can be quite expensive. You will also need to take
care with cheques since the abolishment of guarantee cards. What about
online payments, perhaps through your mobile phone?

Do keep your business money separate from your personal funds as this
simplifies the accountancy procedure.

Consider investing in a good accountant. They may seem expensive but

are worth their weight in gold – particularly when the self-employed tax
return form lands on your mat.

Another consideration is whether you want to read under your own name.
I personally do, but many readers opt not to do so.

Last but not least, invest in a good Ansaphone. You simply cannot answer
the telephone when you are reading (not even mobiles unless you wish to
appear disrespectful and temporarily disconnect from your client). If
people choose not to leave a message then so be it. You will ultimately
read those who are drawn to you and they are the ones who will get
through.

Once you begin to charge for readings you are required by law to have a
Disclaimer notice under the Fraudulent Mediums Act. In this respect, you
are also advised to take out insurance. Companies such as Westminster
cover such work. Peace of mind is invaluable.

Reading for others can be a rewarding experience, bringing you new

friends and a wide circle of acquaintances. Providing you determine your
own boundaries from the outset you will fare well.

Happy reading!
