I. GET TO KNOW THE TASKS
I. BASIC TYPES: Cause, Problem, Solution, Advantage, Disadvantage
1. More and more people are migrating to cities in search of a better life, but city life can be
extremely difficult. Explain some of the difficulties of living in a city. How can governments make
urban life better for everyone?
2. Many people prefer to watch foreign films rather than locally produced films. Why could this be?
Should governments give more financial support to local film industries?
3. In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing. What problems will this cause for
individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of ageing
populations.
4. It is becoming increasingly popular to have a year off between finishing school and going to
university. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?
II. EVALUATION TYPES: Disadvantages ? Advantages?
5. Some people think that it would be better for large companies and industry to move to regional
areas outside large urban centers. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
6. The rise of convenience food has helped people keep up with the speed of modern lifestyle. Do
the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
7. With the rise of e-books comes the decline in paper books. Do you think this is a positive or
negative trend?
III. OPINION TYPES: Agree, Disagree
8a. It is inevitable that traditional cultures will be lost as technology develops. Technology and
traditional cultures are incompatible. To what extent do you agree with this view?
8b. Extreme sports such as sky diving and skiing are very dangerous and should be banned. To
what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?
9a. Most people have forgotten the meaning behind traditional or cultural festivals; during festival

II. WRITE YOUR ESSAY

I.INTRODUCTION: 3-4 sentences

1. Context: In many parts of the world, there have been a growing number of population who are
concerned about +N.

2. Topic (paraphrase): It is generally believed that S+V. (Another opinion emerges that S+V)

3. Answer the questions: This essay attempts to

- Point out several reasons behind this issue.

- Prove that this issue embraces both benefits and drawbacks. (weigh: The benefits of this
trend dominate its drawbacks)
- Point out the problems associated with this issue
- Propose possible measures to combat the problem.

Discuss both views: Based on the discussion of both points of view, this essay attempts to prove
that while the former viewpoint is inadequately unconvincing, the latter is reasonably justifiable.

Opinion: This essay attempts to prove that this viewpoint is unconvincing to a certain extent/
justifiable for certain reasons.

II. BODY

Advantages:
- There are numerous clear benefits related to this issue.
- However, for the most part, the one thing that really stands out is that S+V. This means that
S+V. For example, S+V
- Another obvious plus point is that. If S+V,…../ In fact, S+V.

Disadvantages:
- Despite the above-mentioned merits, it is fair to say that there are certain negative aspects
related to this issue.
- The most unfavorable quality might be that S+V. This is a clear limitation because S+V. For
example, S+V.
- At the same time, another stumbling block might be that S+V. This can be a hassle owing to
the fact that S+V. For instance, S+V

Problems:
- It is universally accepted that there are hazards involved with this issue.
- Essentially, one fundamental concern is probably that it leads to an increase in +N/ Ving. For
instance, S+V. This fact is unmistakably perturbing because the worldwide population are
facing +N/Ving at the moment.

- Additionally, another major cause for concern has to be the fact that S+V. In fact, for the time
being, S+V. If S+V, people will soon be confronted with N+Ving.

Solutions:
- From my perspective, there are possible actions that could be taken to solve the problem
described above.
- When dealing with +N, the easiest way to work it out would be that S+V. This would certainly
tackle the problem quickly due to the fact that S+V.
- A more feasible approach would be for +Sb + to V. This would help… If S+V, ….

Reasons/Causes
- There are various factors leading to the issue.
- Primarily, the issue is caused by the fact that S+V. For instance/As a case in point, S+V
- Additionally, another major reason accounting for the issue is probably that S+V. In fact, for

Agree with an idea

- It is argued that S+V. The underlying reason is that S+V. For example, S+V.
- From my perspective, this viewpoint is justifiable/convincing/reasonable because S+V

Advantages and disadvantages:

From the foregoing discussion, we can conclude that +N+ has both favorable and
unfavorable influences on human life. However, I strongly believe that the dominance of the
positive aspects confirms the position of +N+ in modern society.

Causes and solutions

From the foregoing discussion, we can conclude that the issue can primarily be attributed to
N1 and N2. I strongly believe that it is necessary to V1 and V2to mitigate the risks.

Problems and solutions

From the foregoing discussion, it is true that the issue can bring about problems related to N1
and N2, which will probably not be solved quickly. However, that is not a reason to avoid

taking actions. There should be a cooperation between A and B to effectively eliminate the
negative impacts of this matter.

Agree/Both views
In conclusion, it is understandable that S+V. However/Therefore, I entirely support the view
of N/Ving as there will be significant benefits for the general public eventually.
