Guideline for Completion of this Book

On receipt of this book: The trainee should complete the particulars on FIRST page, and affix his/her recent photograph. BES staff will write the Book number and issue date.

1.The trainee must go through the Guidelines and understand well.

After joining the 1st seagoing ship of 500 GRT or more and subsequent ships during training period for Ratings forming part of a Navigational watch:

1.The trainee should undergo Shipboard Safety and Security familiarization as per company policy.

2.Start undertaking the task as detailed in the TRB under the guidance and/or supervision of STO/OOW.

3.The STO/OOW shall assess the trainee on every task before signing. The STO/OOW shall only sign, if the trainee is considered proficient. The STO/OOW must also write the rank and put the date after signing.

4.The master shall evaluate the competency of the trainee along with STO on completion of each COMPETENCE section; put his/her comment in section 4 - Review of the Training Record Book (TRB).

5.The trainee should maintain records of steering, bridge watch keeping and port watch keeping separately. On every occasion steering or bridge watch keeping or port watch keeping is being carried out, He/she must take
the signature of STO/OOW under whom the steering or Bridge watch keeping or port watch keeping is being executed. The format of records shall be as follows:

6.The format for Steering Certificate, Bridge Watch keeping certificate and Port Watch Keeping is provided in this TRB. The trainee must obtain similar certificates from the master for every ships, he/she serves.

7.When the trainee is off-signing from a ship during the training period, he must ensure that the master completes the Record of Sea Service, signs and puts the ship’s stamp. The trainee shall ensure that the record of service
is being maintained for every ship served. The Record of Sea Service shall act as evidence of services for the company to issue the Training Completion Certificate.

8.The trainee shall visit the office of his/her company on completion of training, present the TRB to the authorized person, take his/her signature on every pages of TRB and obtain the training completion certificate provided on
the 1st page. If a trainee changes companies during the training period, s/he has to obtain the certificates from every company.

9.The trainee shall visit the Facilitation Center (FC) or MMDs (as applicable) with this COMPLETED TRB and all CERTIFICATES for obtaining the COP as Rating forming Part of a Navigational Watch.

7. Format for Bridge Watch keeping Certificate
The bridge watch keeping consists of watches kept at sea, anchor and during
arrival and departure of a port. The trainee shall maintain records of bridge watch
keeping hours and present that to OOW for signature on completion of every
watch.
