VISION:

challenges.
I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a 3-unit course designed to provide students with an understanding of the
interactions among science, technology, and society. It examines how science and
technology influence and are influenced by society, culture, and the environment. The
course will explore historical milestones, technological advancements, ethical dilemmas,
and the Filipino perspective on STS issues.
II. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
• Understand the nature and development of science and technology;
• Analyze the interrelationship between science, technology, and society;
• Evaluate the impact of scientific and technological innovations in the local and global
context;
• Discuss ethical issues related to science and technology;
• Exhibit critical thinking and responsible decision-making on STS concerns; and
• Demonstrate civic competence and appreciation of Filipino contributions to STS.
III. COURSE POLICIES AND GUIDELINES
• Academic Integrity: Cheating and plagiarism are strictly prohibited and will result in
disciplinary action. Learners must answer each assignment on their own understanding and
credit the rightful owner for research works.
• Missed or Late Submission of Works: Must have a valid reason with documentation (e.g.
illness, death of immediate family member). Work must be submitted within the grace
period.
• Attendance: Regular attendance is expected. Late arrival of more than 15 minutes is
marked absent. A maximum of 20% absences of total class hours is allowed, beyond which
the student may be dropped.
• Classroom Management: Respectful interaction, proper uniform, no gadget usage during
discussions unless permitted, follow seat plan, and observe all institutional policies.
