Online Homework #2: Project Development Cycle

Project Development Cycle helps provide a structured plan for project managers
to guide their projects to a successful completion. This cycle includes all the stages
needed within a project, from the conception of the idea up until the final
implementation. This is essential as the different phases involved are broken down into
simpler steps, making it easier for project managers to anticipate what may come next.
The project development cycle typically has five cycle phases, namely, initiation,
planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and closure.
 Initiation Phase
- This phase marks the beginning of a project, with the project manager
defining the scope and objectives. In this phase, it is essential to align
stakeholders on common goals and lay the foundation for a successful
project. In addition, the project manager also conducts a feasibility
assessment to determine whether the project is realistic and
worthwhile.
 Planning Phase
- During this phase, the project manager develops a detailed project
plan or roadmap. This involves determining the key scheduling details,
resource allocation, and potential risks that could impact the project.
The goal of this phase is to create a comprehensive map of how the
team will execute the work.
 Execution Phase
- During this phase, the team puts the project plan into action. The
project manager plays an essential role in coordinating resources,
which includes the people or laborers, tools, and materials, while also
ensuring that the team is well informed regarding their individual tasks
and timelines.

 Monitoring and Controlling Phase

- This phase involves regularly monitoring the project progress and
evaluating the team performance to ensure that everything is executed
according to the project plan. Furthermore, the project manager
identifies any deviation from the plan and budget, determining the
cause to take corrective action.
 Closing Phase
- This phase marks the formal end of the project. In this phase, the main
focus is on getting final approvals and sign-offs, conducting a post-
project review, and identifying what went well, determining the areas
for improvement and documenting the lessons learned. These
activities foster a culture of continuous learning and promote
accountability and transparency.
