SUBJECT: Delphi Fuel Injection Pump Upgrade to Electronic L-Series Governor Option
PROBLEM
1103 and 1104 generator sets that are currently running in countries where diesel fuel is not as per
EN590 can result in reduced injection pump life and instability issues, this is due to the fuel not
having the required lubricity properties and little to no fuel metering valve movement. In order to
extend the life of the Delphi fuel injection pump FG Wilson recommends upgrading to the ‘electronic’
L-series governor option (LCS Control). This electronic governor will allow fuelling to be adjusted
while running, preventing the pump internals becoming static for long periods of time.
AFFECTED UNITS
All 1103 and 1104 mechanically governed generator sets.

PROCEDURE
Fitting of the L-Series Governor to the DP210 Fuel Injection Pump
NOTE:
Ensure that the battery is disconnected before commencing this procedure
During this conversion a number of components will be removed from the top of the pump control
cover, giving access for debris, dirt etc. to enter the pump.
Therefore, thoroughly clean the pump control cover with a suitable, approved, non-hazardous
cleaning fluid before conversion.
To ensure no contamination occurs DO NOT LEAVE UNATTENDED, until conversion is
completed!
1. Remove overshoot screw and lock nut as shown below.
2. Replace the overshoot screw and locknut with the AF plug and washer provided in the kit.

3. Remove protective cover from Actuator blanking plug and fixing holes as shown.
4. Clean down pump and remove all debris, then carefully remove Actuator blanking plug using
10 mm allen key.

5. Lubricate and fit 1off ‘O’ ring (supplied with the kit). Then, holding the Actuator with the lever
facing towards you, rotate the actuator lever fully clockwise.
6. Position the actuator with the electrical connector facing towards you and the lever downwards,
as shown. Align the fixing holes and gently position on to the pump and lock in place with
mounting screws.
The actuator should be a light push fit, if any resistance is felt the actuator should be
removed and the access to the pump checked.
7. Start the generator set with the L-Series governor disconnected and adjust the engine speed to
65 Hz.

8. The interface cable provides an RS232 to TTL converter for compatibility with the L-Series
input.
9. Download the L-series software via PowerUp 2.
10. Contact CPI@FGWilson.com for required flash files.
11. Connect to the L-series via a laptop and flash with the associated flash file noting that the
password is ‘Lseries01’.
12. Plug the harness into the L-Series electronic governor, start generator set and check for stable
operation and leaks.
