TRACK ASSY SERVICE – EC300DL or Similar Excavator
The Track Assembly includes all major undercarriage components responsible for machine travel and stability. Regular service helps prevent expensive
failures and keeps the machine running smoothly on all terrains.
📦 1. TRACK ASSY Components
Component Function
Track Chain Carries load, supports weight, provides motion
Track Shoes (Pads) Ground contact, traction
Track Pins & Bushings Links track links and allows pivot movement
Sprocket Drives the track via final drive motor
Idler Guides the track and absorbs tension/recoil
Carrier Rollers Support the top of the track
Track Rollers Support the bottom/load of the track chain
Track Adjuster (Tensioner) Maintains proper track tension
✅ 2. Routine TRACK ASSY Maintenance Checklist
Task Frequency
Inspect track tension Weekly or 50 hrs
Clean undercarriage Daily in muddy or sandy conditions
Check for loose shoes or bolts Weekly
Grease tensioner (if required) As needed
Measure pin & bushing wear Every 1000 hours
Check for cracked shoes/links Monthly
Inspect sprocket/roller wear Every 250–500 hrs
📏 3. Correct Track Tension (Volvo EC300DL)
Sag specification: 30–50 mm (1.2–2.0 inches) between carrier roller and idler
Measured with the track lifted off the ground at the middle of the frame
🔧 4. Track Adjustment Procedure
To Tighten:
Use a grease gun on the track adjuster’s zerk fitting
Pump grease until track sag is within limits
To Loosen:
Loosen the grease relief bolt to let grease escape
Idler retracts; recheck sag, then tighten valve
🔩 5. Track Shoe Bolt Torque
Torque: 600–800 Nm (consult manual for exact spec)
Re-torque bolts after first 10–50 hours of operation after shoe replacement
⚙️6. Common TRACK ASSY Problems & Fixes
Issue Possible Cause Action
Track jumping or misaligned Worn sprocket / loose rollers / worn links Inspect and replace worn parts
Track too tight Over-greased adjuster Release grease and recheck sag
Track walking off frame Misaligned idler / worn bushings Check alignment and frame wear
Pins/Bushings worn (egg-shaped) Normal wear over hours Rotate or replace chain
Cracked shoes or loose bolts Heavy impact / improper torque Replace & re-torque
Excessive noise during travel Worn rollers / dry components Lubricate or replace as needed
🔄 7. Track Chain Replacement/Overhaul
If you see:
Severely worn or stretched track
Dry or seized pins
Bushings worn through
Cracks on links or shoes
👉 It's time to replace or rebuild the track chain.
Options:
Full track assembly replacement
Pin & bushing turn (rotate 180° to extend life)
Link press service (if you have track press)
🛠️8. Tools Required
Torque wrench
Track pin press or hydraulic jack
Grease gun & pressure release tool
Sledgehammer (manual shoe removal)
Cleaning tools (pressure washer, brush)
🏷️9. Replacement Part Notes
Shoe width (standard): 600 mm to 800 mm
Link count: Usually 46–48 links (depends on shoe width)
Use genuine Volvo or high-quality aftermarket (Berco, ITR, Vematrack, etc.)
