MALIN KUNDANG
a long time ago in the north coast of sumatra lived a widow and her son named
Malin Kundang. They were living in poverty. Malin Kundang grew up as a kind,
strong and skillful young man. He always wanted to be successful person to help
his mother. “ hem, I’m so poor, I want to be rich, I need to fine a better job.”
One day a large ship of a rich merchant docked in his village. Malin Kundang met
one of the ship's crew and he was overed to join. He knew it was a good chance
to make his dream come true. He went home to ask permission from his mother.
“ mom what if i sail overseas?” ask malin kundang to his mother.
" no my son, I'm afraid you will not return just like your father, you are the only
child I have, if you don't come back who will I live with. i don't want to lose you
malin” said his mom.
"But mom, if i stay here we will always be poor, i want to be a success and we can
have a better life. Don't worry mom, I promise I'll be back and we can live
together”. Finally nothing could be done by his mother. In the next morning malin
kundang was ready to go.
Time flies, it had been a year since malin kundang left his mother, his mother
never heard any news from malin kundang, however she kept waiting and praying
for his son to come home safely.
malin kundang worked hard day and night the only thing on his mind was to be
rich. Because of his determination and hard work he became rich man. He had a
large ship with more than a hundred crew. And he also married a beautiful
woman. “I'm rich I'm rich” he sing happily while counting his money.
One day malin kundang took his wife sailing on his luxury boats they docked in
the village port of malin kundang hometown. news of malin kundang reached his
mother. Malin’s mom run to the port to meet malin kundang. Finally after several
years of waiting she will meet her beloved son. She was surprised by arrival of a
wealthy merchant in the ship. when the ship pulled over, marlin's mother saw a
wealthy man who was down the lader along with his beautiful wife. The man
turned out to be her only son, malin kundang. Without any hesitation she came
running to hug her son “oh my dear son, I really miss you malin”. However
mankundan didn't give a response he was too shamed to admit that the old
woman was his own mother in front of his wife
“who is she, is she really your mother?”. Malin kundang was nervous he didn't
want his wife to find out that he came from a poor family.
“eeeee….. no honey, she is not my mother, maybe she just an old beggar.
“Of course she is not your mother, get out beggar ewww !”
“how can you don't recognize me my child, I am your mother I raised you with all
my heart” said his mother crying.
malin kundang became angry “who are you, I don’t have such a dirty and old
mother like you. My mother has passed away, don't lie to me old beggar”
Malin’s mother was so shock and felt disappointed, she took a step back and cry,
with a painful heart his mother prayed to God God “if he is truly my son malin
kundang, I curse him to turn into a stone.” No long after in the middle of calm sea
suddenly the wind was blowing so hard then a storm came the storm struck malin
kundang.
slowly Marlin felt his body stiffened “oh no what's wrong with my body I can't
move, help me help…..”
he realize he has been cursed by his mom, he knelt on the ground and asking for
forgiveness.
“mom I’m sorry please forgive me mom”
But it was too late to him to regret disobeying his mother, as he knelt on the
ground and immediately he turned into a stone.
