Introduction
The Cement Factory Fire claimed the lives of eleven young adults, teenagers tragically
lost to the flames of their betrayal, as a twelfth scattered cigarette ashes which lit the
fumes and burned the old building down. Yet the next day, all eleven were asleep in their
beds and returned to their lives on Monday. How could this be?

Praise the Hawkmoth King, for in their moment of death, He offered His children a second
chance, transforming them into His deathless souls in a dying land, His lanterns in a
starless sea, His blade against the unyielding flesh of a carrion-world.

But oh my dear children, we must praise the Hawkmoth King with knives between our
hands, for once He has given you the burden of life-anew, you can never again see the
world as it was before. There are Devils crawling behind the walls of reality, and they want
to fucking kill you.

Praise the Hawkmoth King is a dark erotic TTRPG using the Powered by the Apocalypse
(PBTA) Engine to tell the story of a group of teenagers, transformed into monstrous
undead, tasked with an impossible mission requiring them to seduce and manipulate
Devils to uncover their true forms, and then kill them by any methods necessary.

Setting Expectations (Dead Dove Inside)


This game contains the following materials built into its rules: Nonconsensual sex, sexual
violence, teenagers having sex, age-gap relationships, bugs, voyeurism, oviposition,
BDSM, master/slave dynamics, cannibalism, petplay, stalking, musk, nausea/vomiting,
intoxication, tentacle rape, vore, hypnosis, and mindbreak. This is both a list of content
warnings and tantalizing promises.

This is a game meant for an experienced group of players with a lot of trust between
them. This is also a game for experienced kinksters; people who understand how to apply
and utilize negotiation, safewords, and aftercare. While this game is not itself a sexual
activity, it is a game about extremely taboo sex, and it may stir sexual feelings inside of
you during play.
Finally, you should be prepared that you may get hurt while playing this game. This is true
of all games, of course, but it's especially true of this one. I cannot protect you from
getting hurt. Please play mindfully, and be aware of the ways in which this game may put
you on edge or work you into a tizzy.

Preparation
You'll need one person to act as the Hawkmoth King (the HK), who serves as the mistress
of ceremonies and facilitates the world around the players. The HK maintains the honest
truth of the world, presents challenges before the other players, and plays to find out how
the players change their world.

The remaining players each take up one of the Teenagers who died in the Cement Factory
Fire. They'll embody their specific character, overcome challenges presented by the HK
(and each other), and play to find out the person their Teenager is forcibly shaped into.

You'll also need some six-sided dice, pencils and paper, various Boons, bottles of water,
and some big sharpies.

Hawkmoth-Chan says: Hi, I'm Hawkmoth-Chan! I'm the adorable and


charming representation of the Hawkmoth King's divine will within the
confines of your pathetic cosmos. The Hawkmoth King (my Daddy) created me
to be exceptionally friend-shaped, and I hope my high-pitched voice and
cuddly shape helps you relax your inhibitions around me. I'll be accompanying
you as you read through this document, giving you practical tips and tactical
advice along the way. Don't be shy! You'll come to rely on me in time, and I'm
sooo super kawaii yay ଘ(ノ ´ з `)ノ

Powered by the Apocalypse


This game is Powered by the Apocalypse. All players will be taking on a set of Agendas,
achieving them with Principles, and using that to have a Conversation together. It also
(more incidentally) means this game has a resolution system which uses two six-sided
dice, of which you add a number (your Stat) to. This also means we can think of this game
as a Conversation. We'll go back and forth discussing events, trying as best as we can to
remain honest to the world we've imagined, and occasionally we will punctuate our
statements with Plays.
As an aside: if you're used to Moves in most PBTA, Plays aren't quite the same. Plays aren't
necessarily triggered by the fiction (although they can be!) but are instead tools Players
reach for when faced with uncertainty. Think of them as buttons on a controller, or tools in
a toolbox. Name them, point them out, lean into them, don't be shy.

If you're unfamiliar with PBTA (Powered by the Apocalypse) games, or even worse, have
only played bad ones like Dungeon World, this is not a good introduction. Please go play
6-12 sessions of a PBTA system that treats you with compassion and care, before you dive
into the deep end. At the end of this text are a list of games that inspired this one, all of
them (at least marginally) less violently erotic. Go play some of those instead, please.
Come back when you're ready.

The Hunt & The Quiet


There are Devils lurking throughout the Town, disguising themselves as humans to take
advantage of mankind. The only way to trick them into revealing their true forms and
confronting them as the monsters they are is to have sex with them. The Hawkmoth King,
in His infinite wisdom, has returned these Teenagers to life to fulfill this function.

Chapter 0 is a quickstart designed to give you a taste of the game. You can play with it to
tell quick adventures, but it doesn't provide any structure.

Chapter 1 covers the Hunt — introducing Devils, how to engage with them, how they can
ruin you, and how to ultimately destroy them.

Chapter 2 will cover the Quiet — the periods in between activity where the Teenagers
must lay low and maintain pretenses.

If you're playing Praise the Hawkmoth King as a oneshot, the focus will just be on the Hunt.
The Plays
Over the course of the session, each Player will have their opportunity to make Plays.
There are many Plays available. The eight Basic Plays which all Teenagers may make, the
Societal and Blessing Plays available to Teenagers to reflect the powers granted by their
social position, the Sex Plays available to Teenagers when they have (or are forced to have)
sex, and various situational Plays forced by the HK via the world.

Plays occur either when the fiction calls for it (i.e another Player will say something like: It
sounds like you're making a Play here). or when the Player calls for it (i.e you will declare: I
am making a Play!). Often something simply cannot be done without making a Play. (The
HK may say: You will fail, unless you can Play it right).

All Plays have a prompt, structured as "When you do x…" which sets up the fictional
circumstances provoking the Play. The rest of the Play's text describes what occurs as a
result of that Prompt.

Most Plays involve rolling 2 six-sided dice, adding them together, and then adding a
number to it. The number is most often between -2 and +3, as larger numbers (either
negative or positive) tend to break apart the mathematics of the game. There are three
possible brackets of results: Rolling a 6 or less, rolling a 7, 8 or 9, and rolling a 10 or higher.
It's often (although not always) true that you seek a higher bracket of results.

The HK also has Plays of their own, both more universal ones and character-specific ones.
These Plays function similarly, although they mostly don't involve the HK rolling dice.

Advice on Playing Sex


This is a game about foreplay, sex, rape, and desire. Sex in Praise the Hawkmoth King is
treated with the granularity many games reserve for combat, and this is reflected in the
basic plays.
Tabletop RPG players in the United States are prudes around sex. This is a
well-documented and humiliating phenomenon. If you wish to escape this perception, and
incorporate sex into your games without coming off as a huge nerd, the best way to do
this is to engage with sex as if it was any other physical action people could do to each
other. Abandon the impulse to titter away when someone gives someone else a blowjob.
Instead, focus on the physical action occurring, what it means for the characters involved,
and what are the ramifications of it. If you're not used to RPing sex in TTRPGs, here's some
questions worth asking whenever sex comes up during play:

●​ What are the logistics of sex? How is everyone positioned? How are body parts
touching? What physical state is everyone in?
●​ How are the characters expressing themselves through sex? Is someone more
experienced than another? What does this sex mean to each participant? How does their
personality shine through?
●​ What is the aftermath of having sex? Does anyone have to work to gather their
clothes? Is anything stained with sweat or reeking with musk? Who came? Is anyone
crying afterwards?

Phases of Play
Praise the Hawkmoth King is divided into two Phases — The Hunt and Downtime. During
the Hunt, the Teenagers will be focused on periods of high action and drama, while during
Downtime, the Teenagers will take time to keep their heads down, focus on their side
projects, and recover their image socially. If you're playing a oneshot of Praise the
Hawkmoth King, it will be set entirely during the Hunt. Rules for Downtime are only
necessary for longer-term play.

When You Might Use the Basic Plays


When you want to learn more about someone, you might… ask them a sincere question
(GIRL) or feel them up (BOY).

When you want to change how someone else sees you, you might… put on a show for
them (FLAME) or use yourself as bait (THING).

When you want to take control of someone else, you might… pin them down (BOY), go
down on them (GIRL), or lay bare your wretched heart (THING)

When you want to regain control of yourself, you might…push them away (FLAME)

When you want to fuck someone, you might… put on a show for them (FLAME), pin them
down (BOY), or feel them up (BOY).

When you want someone to fuck you, you might… put on a show for them (FLAME), go
down on them (GIRL), or use yourself as bait (THING).

When you want to be emotionally vulnerable with someone, you might… ask them a
sincere question (GIRL) or lay bare your wretched heart (THING).

When you want someone to de-escalate, you might… push them away (FLAME) or lay bare
your wretched heart (THING).
Making Your Teenager
To create one's Teenager, each player (besides the HK) picks a Role and a Blessing.

Your Teenager's Role determines the expectations and perspective their family and
community had of them before their untimely demise.

Your Teenager's Blessing determines the monstrous and horrific gifts bestowed upon the
Teenager by the Hawkmoth King.

From your Teenager's Role, you determine four of their starting Stats, the Guardians of
these Stats, and their Societal Play. From your Teenager's Blessing, you determine how
their starting Stats begin Changed, their Starting Rot, the Look associated with each Stat,
their Blessing Plays, and their Sex Plays.

Once each Teenager has been prepared, go around and introduce yourselves. Then go
around twice more, each time reading off one of your Bindings, and determining which
other Teenager fits that Binding.

Hawkmoth-Chan says: Each Teenager's Role and Blessing loudly insists


upon a particular gender. These may align or they may diverge. It's your call if
your Teenager is the same gender as their Role, if their gender was wrong
before (and it was only through my Daddy's divine will that they found
identity), or if both their Role and Blessing are inaccurate. No matter what, I'll
be calling them by the gender of their Blessing. ଘ(¬、¬)
Stats
Each Teenager has five Stats. These are:

●​ GIRL: Your femininity, your sociability, your eagerness to get fucked. Low GIRL
means you have no attachment to femininity, high GIRL means you delight in and
find pleasure in the feminine parts of you. It is used when you ask a sincere question,
when you go down on someone, and sometimes when you get fucked.
●​ BOY: Your masculinity, your assertiveness, your capacity to fuck others. Low BOY
means you feel disconnected from masculinity, high BOY means you embrace and
revel in the masculine parts of you. It is used when you pin someone down, when you
feel someone up, and sometimes when you fuck someone.
●​ THING: Your inanimacy, your stiffness, your function as a tool for others. Low
THING means you think of yourself as a person, high THING means you think of
yourself as an object. It is used when you offer yourself up as bait, when you lay bare
your wretched heart, and sometimes when you get fucked.
●​ FLAME: Your passion, your ambition, your motivation to be yourself. Low FLAME
means you lack motivation, high FLAME means you know who you want to be and
how to get there. It is used when you put on a show for someone, when you push
someone away, and sometimes when you fuck someone.
●​ ROT: The degree and intensity of the wretched changes settling into your bones.
Low ROT means you appear basically human, while high ROT means you're fully a
corpse, held together only by His blessing. It is used when it's time to come back, and
often in other ways as well.

An average Stat is +1. Most Teenagers do not have higher than +3 or -2 in a Stat: going any
higher reflects a supernatural or alien relationship with the Stat in question. Your gender
and pronouns are not determined by your Stats, although being a boy with low BOY (for
example) does create a sensation of gender dysphoria.

Looks
Each Teenager has a Look to them, which they set at the start of each day. A Teenager's
Look is determined by each of their Stats. The higher the Stat, the more options from the
associated list are chosen. You may also invent options in line with the other choices on
the List, or borrow freely from other lists.
Guardians
You have five Guardians, one for each Stat. Four of these Guardians are chosen by your
Role. Each Guardian has a version of you in their imagination, based on their associated
Stat. The Guardian of your GIRL sees the potential and worth of your more feminine side,
while the Guardian of your BOY sees the promise of your masculinity. The Guardian of
your THING views you as a pliable object they can fill with their own agendas, while the
Guardian of your FLAME believes in your own self-determination and authority.

These are the only NPCs who you can consistently trust, for better or worse. They'll always
see in you the version of you they want you to be, and as long as you put effort into
aligning with their desires for you, they'll do their best to help.

Whenever you spend time with a Guardian, do them a favor, pleasure them, or prove your
allegiance to their expectations of you, they'll give you a Boon.

It's in your best interest to keep your mortal Guardians from finding out the full truth
about what's going on.

Hawkmoth-Chan says: I am your fifth Guardian, the Guardian of your ROT!


You can always come to me for emotional support and wisdom, and all I want
in exchange is your obedience and assistance guarding Greenvale from the
Devils at its doorstep. If you do your job, I'll be your perfect Guardian, and
you'll be my perfect ward. ଘ( ˘ ³˘)♥
Rules of Play
Changing
Whenever the rules of Praise the Hawkmoth King instruct you to Change, increase any one
(non-ROT) Stat by 1 and decrease any other (non-ROT) Stat by 1. Whenever you Force a
Change onto someone else, you adjust their (non-ROT) Stats the same way.

Whenever you Change or Force a Change onto someone else, you may (if you have time or
patience) adjust their Look appropriately.

Hawkmoth-Chan says: Tactically Force Changes onto other Teenagers to


make them more useful for you. If you need to transform someone into a
more effective fighter, increase their BOY and FLAME. If you want to use
someone as a sex doll, or you want them to more effectively gather
information, increase their GIRL and THING. Remember that other people's
bodies and minds are just props you can manipulate to get what you want.
ଘ(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭* ̀ˋ

Insults
When someone Insults you, they write a slur, insecurity, or humiliating observation,
either on your body or on your Character Sheet (ideally very large and in a place everyone
can see it). As long as you're marked in this way, whenever you make a Play, you may
intentionally lean into or emphasize the Insult, and take a Boon.

Anyone else can remind you of one of your Insults once per scene, whenever you make a
Play with them or whenever they make a Play with you. They may say something like:
"Nuh-uh, [insults] don't act like that" or "I know you're an [insult], so…" If someone reminds
you of an Insult in this fashion, they underline the Insult and increase or decrease the
results of the Play (meaning they may turn a 6- or a 10+ into a 7-9, or vice versa). If the
Insult has already been underlined twice, instead circle it— it's now fundamental to your
personhood, and no one can remind you of it, nor can you use it for Boons — you cannot
escape its truth.

Hawkmoth-Chan says: Use Insults tactically to sculpt and manipulate other


people. If there's plays you don't want someone making, give them an Insult
that keeps them from easily making those plays. If you want to encourage
particular behavior, give them an Insult that encourages or empowers that
behavior. For instance, maybe you call someone a "bimbo" if you want to keep
them from asking questions but you also know you want to fuck them later.
Insults are one of your most valuable weapons, so use them wisely.

If you're too stupid to come up with Insults on your own, here's a list: Slut,
whore, bimbo, princess, good girl, doll, spoiled brat, cocksucker, lesbo, urinal,
little bitch, retard, baby boy, sissy, pussy, faggot, creep, pervert, rapist,
narcissist, male-socialized, brute, mutt, cripple, or stinky.

Boons
Boons represent hidden reserves of personal strength and growth, which you may reveal
at opportune moments to seize control of yourself. You take Boons by playing into your
Bindings, your relationships with other Teenagers, which are determined by your Role, or
by providing aid and doing favors for your Guardians. You may also take Boons through
Plays.

When you spend a Boon, it becomes Scored with one of your Guardians. Mark a little tally
by that Guardian's name on your sheet. Once you have placed five Boons with a particular
Guardian, erase them all and take an Advance.

You may spend Boons in the following ways:

●​ With any non-Rot Guardian to Change your Stats, increasing the Stat associated
with that Guardian. You may do this before making a Play, by thinking about your
Guardian and reflecting on how they're influencing the Play.
●​ With a Guardian to obtain food, shelter, or resources from that Guardian. It's the
HK's call how many Boons something costs. A single Boon is good enough for a
meal, a car ride, or a place to crash.
●​ With a Guardian (in person and in private) to remove one of your Insults in a
moment of intimacy and wisdom.
●​ With Hawkmoth-Chan to take +1 or -1 ROT. This may be done in the face of death,
or while dead.

Hawkmoth-Chan says: You may also spend Boons with me in other ways, to
access a fragment of my incredible power. I can bring your mortal friend back
to life, I can find you guns and other weapons, I may even let you fuck me for
the right price. ◝ଘ(^⌣^)ଓ◜

Advances
Both your Role and your Blessing provide a list of Advances to choose from. To obtain one
of your Role's Advances, you must spend 5 Boons tallied onto any one of your Guardians,
and have a scene with that Guardian. To obtain one of your Blessing's Advances, you must
spend 5 Boons tallied with Hawkmoth-Chan, and have a scene with him.

Once you've obtained a total of five Advances (from either your Role or Blessing, or some
combination) you may seek out Prestige Advances. These aren't present in Chapter Zero.

Gangs
A Small Gang is between two and five people. A Big Gang is between six and twenty
people. A Massive Gang is more than twenty people.

BOY and FLAME Plays are impacted by Gangs. Rolling +BOY or +FLAME against a Gang
takes -1 for the difference between their size and the Gang. A single person making these
Plays takes -1 against a Small Gang, -2 against a Big Gang, and -3 against a Massive Gang.
On the flipside, if you've got a Gang supporting you, you get +1 on BOY and FLAME Plays
based on the size of your Gang.
Mercy
When you put someone at your Mercy, you're both stuck — frozen in the emotional
tension. Neither of you can proceed until you choose one of the following:

●​ Let them go, take a Boon (from them, if they have one), and pocket an object from
their person.
●​ Humiliate or mock them, and Insult them accordingly.
●​ Push yourself inside them, and fuck them.
●​ Remind them of an Insult. If you do, you can strike them hard enough to kill them.

Hawkmoth-Chan says: You silly teenagers hate getting caught with your
pants down. The mortal world is full of judgmental pricks, and you've spent
your lives stranded in a sea of shame and embarrassment. If a mundane
student or authority figure catches you in a…compromising position, they
can use their NPC Plays to capitalize on the power imbalance and put you at
their Mercy. Not me, though. I'd never do something like that. ଘ(⋆ˆ ³ ˆ)♥

Sway
When someone is under your Sway, you've tethered an invisible emotional leash from you
to them. Write down their name on your Sheet, and if they're another Teenager, mark their
body or character sheet with your Teenager's initials, the same way you would with an
Insult.

If you have Sway over someone, they generally trust you, and are willing to go along with
what you suggest. Those under your Sway also feel the inescapable desire to fuck you,
even if they cannot admit this desire is burning inside them. If they forget, you can always
tug on the Sway, tap on your initials, and remind them who they belong to.

You cannot have multiple Sway over someone. You either have it or you don't. If you would
gain Sway over someone, and you already have Sway over them, instead Force a Change
onto them.

You can Spend your Sway, removing your control over them going forward, in order to
force their behavior. This can be used to:
●​ Get them to follow a command which they wouldn't normally be comfortable with.
●​ Ask them any one question, which they must answer truthfully.
●​ Prevent them from making a Play, requiring them to choose a different response.
●​ Compel them to make a Play towards a specific person of your choice, although
they choose which one.
●​ Abandon your control. Insult them, and take a Boon.

If someone has Sway over you, you may force their hand and demand they Spend their
Sway at any time, or you may blithely go along with their instructions.

Non-Player Characters
Non-Player Characters, such as Mortals, Guardians, and other powerful beings, are all
controlled by the HK. Mortals have their own social ladder they operate on, their own
desires and goals which they may obtain from the Teenagers, and their own Plays.
Anything that works on a Teenager also works on a Non-Player Character, although
sometimes to an even more dramatic effect.

Hawkmoth-Chan says: Some Mortals aren't actually normal people, but are
instead Devils incognito, the eternal enemy of the Hawkmoth King and the
beings whose influence you were born to fight against. They are motivated by
an obsession with their Vice, and if you can identify a Devil's Vice you can
easily manipulate it. The only way you can tell a Mortal apart from a Devil
Incognito is through fucking them or getting them to fuck you. Once they
enter a state of ecstasy, the Devil will reveal its True Form, and you may then
leverage your Insults to kill it. Don't be afraid of Devils — after all, you're
already dead. What's the worst they could do to you? ଘ( ♡´艸`)

Grades
The worst part about dying was probably having to get up to go to school the next day. As
a Teenager you have a responsibility to balance your hunting periods with your
schoolwork and, even if you don't have the energy to truly excel, you must at least find a
way to maintain the expectations of those around you.

Every Teenager begins with a letter grade that represents their cumulative presence and
performance at school.
●​ A: The best of the best.
●​ B: Good enough for most parents.
●​ C: Mediocre, but still passing.
●​ D: Doing poorly.
●​ F: Actively failing.
●​ X: Expelled from school or a fugitive from the system.

Mortals with authority can influence this Grade, offering to raise it in exchange for a favor
or lower it as punishment for your behaviors. Every Teenager has a Grade Threshold. If a
Teenager's Grades fall below the Grade Threshold, they're considered a disappointment.

If a Grade is marked with a "+" or a "-", that means it's been modified to reflect exemplary
or mediocre performance.

When a Grade is Increased, mark it with a "+" or remove a "-". If it was already marked with
a plus, instead increase it to the next letter. If it was already an A+, the Teenager instead
gets a commendation for exemplary behavior, and takes a Boon.

When a Grade is Decreased, mark it with a "-" or remove a "+". If it was already marked with
a minus, instead decrease it to the next letter. If it was already an X-, the Teenager is being
actively hunted by authority figures.
Sex
The world is composed of those who fuck and those who get fucked. Tops and bottoms.
Predators and prey. Monsters and victims. But it's never easy to tell who is who, now is it?

If you go to fuck someone, unless you have them at your Mercy, they will have the
opportunity to make a Play in response, to redirect, seize control, or throw off your
advances.

You cannot attempt to get fucked on your own, unless you have the other person under
your Sway. That's something other people do to you.

Hawkmoth-Chan says: Insults are a useful way to coerce people into having
sex with you. Remind them of their inadequacy to upgrade your Play to a 10+
when you pin them to put them at your Mercy. Remind them of their
perversions to upgrade your Play to a 10+ when you offer yourself up as bait to

Death
When you die, the divine touch of the Hawkmoth King leaves your body, and you must lie
there empty and hollow, without His flame filling you, until a certain amount of time
passes. This time is determined by your ROT:

Rot 0 or lower: You return to life within seconds.

Rot 1: You must wait ten minutes.

Rot 2: You must wait until sunset or sunrise (whichever is sooner).

Rot 3: You must wait until this time next day.

Rot 4: You must wait until this day next week.

Rot 5+: You must wait until this day next month.
While dead, you feel as though you are dreaming, and you have a semi-conscious sense of
what is happening to your body. You cannot make Plays while dead, although Plays may
be made on your corpse.

Once sufficient time has passed, it's time to come back.

Hawkmoth-Chan says: Pro gamer tip here! Another Teenager may push
themself inside of you and fuck your corpse. If they do, it's immediately time
to come back, although make the Play with their +FLAME. When a Teenager
does this, they take +1 ROT and roll for when they fuck someone else, as usual.

The Basic Plays
When you ask a sincere question…

…and you want that question to be answered truthfully, roll +GIRL. No matter what, they'll
answer any questions you ask as truthfully as they can, although they may not enjoy doing
so. On a 6-, you instead blurt out a question from below, or something very much like it,
and take a Boon. On a 7-9, you manage to ask the question you mean to ask, but you then
proceed to blurt out one from below as well. On a 10+, you hold yourself together and ask
the question you meant to ask, along with a second question, if it pleases you.

other. If either of you doesn't like the deal, you can push the other away. On a 10+, each of
you chooses 2 from the list below to perform to the other. If either of you rejects the
exchange, they're at the other's Mercy.

responses. On a 6-, you're not very good, you're found out, or you somehow make it weird.
Ask 1 from below, but the other person Insults you. On a 7-9, you grasp their body and
explore it, uncovering parts of them that they never wanted to show the world. Ask 2 from
below. You may then Insult them if you'd like. On a 10+, you lose yourself in the sensation
of their body. Ask 3 from below, and then you must Insult them based on their answers.

them down, firmly and without a doubt. They are fully at your Mercy.

When you push someone away…

…describe how you make it clear their presence isn't wanted, then roll +FLAME. On a 6-,
you come off callous and unpleasant, and they may Insult you if it pleases them. On a 7-9,
you've made it clear you don't want them around. If they stick around anyway, you may
Insult them. On a 10+, give them an appropriate Insult. ("Creep" or "Clingy" may be suitable.)
Take a Boon whenever you are the one who reminds them of this Insult during a Play.
When you put on a show for someone…

…choose how you want them to see you, describe how you present yourself to them, and
roll +FLAME.

they'll be at my Mercy if they don't.
●​ I want them to find me entertaining. They'll focus on me at the expense of anything else,

On a 6-, or if they know you well enough to know it's a complete fabrication, you don't come
off the way you hoped you did. They can choose another way they see you instead, if
they'd like, or they can Insult you. On a 7-9, or if they know you well enough to know how
you're pretending, they see you how you want them to see you, but it reveals parts of you to
them in ways you didn't expect. They choose another way they see you as well, or they
may Insult you. On a 10+, describe how you lean into what you are, and they cannot deny
the truth of how they see you.

When you lay bare your wretched heart…

…reveal some hidden and monstrous part of you, ask them for the help you need, and roll
+THING. On a 6-, they cannot see you for who you really are. Ask them what they see
instead, and they will respond to your words how it pleases them. Take a Boon. On a 7-9,
their subconscious mind revolts at what they see before them. They can choose to dutifully
go along with what you request, or they can flee, push you away, or Insult you. On a 10+,
they know now what you truly are, and see you for the wretched creature you have
become. They must do what you tell them to do, and if they don't, they're at your Mercy.
When you offer your body up as bait…

…describe how you are vulnerable before someone else, and roll +THING. On a 6-, you
reveal your secret hunger to them, and choose 1 from below to express. They may let you
use them, or they may spurn you and Insult you. On a 7-9, they see you as the vulnerable
thing you are. They must choose 1 from below to express and act upon, and you take a
Boon. On a 10+, you offer yourself fully and completely. Choose 1 from below which they
feel compelled to act upon. It would take every ounce of self-control to keep themself from
acting that way, and even then, what is yours in turn is still yours.

strain, and the HK Forces a Change onto you. On a 7-9, you return to life carrying new
darkness in your heart. Gain +1 ROT. On a 10+, the Hawkmoth King holds you aloft in His
generosity, and you feel the warmth of His compassion. Return with -1 ROT, and describe
how you've healed while in death.

that Boon is present there, you may ask any of the following questions about them at any

telepathically. You may kill your child and remove the Bug Coin to leverage that Sway
(including to use their body to remotely make any Play).

When you send your children out into the world…

…release the swarm and roll +THING. On a 6-, your children are spotted and gossiped
about, and many of them are crushed. Place 2 Bug Coins among any combination of
characters and take +1 ROT. On a 7-9, your children spread out across the town. Place 3
Bug Coins among any combination of characters. On a 10+, your children squirm into the
deepest crevices of the town. Place 4 Bug Coins among any combination of characters,
and select one of those Characters. Your child has found them at their weakest and most
vulnerable.

When you release the growing swarm…

…open the vents secretly carved within your body and roll +ROT. No matter what, the
swarm is everywhere. Place a Bug Coin on everyone present. On a 6-, you cannot control
the swarm, and it kills everyone and everything in its sight (including its host body) before
dispersing. On a 7-9, the swarm destroys its host body as it emerges, but you may
command and shape it to function as your will, sparing some and slaughtering others. On
a 10+, the swarm does not kill its host body, and is completely and entirely under your
control.
When you shed your fragile shell and flee…

…describe how your body breaks out of itself and roll +GIRL. On a 6-, choose 1 from below.
On a 7-9, choose 2 from below. On a 10+, choose 3 from below.

●​ You definitely escape, and no one may pursue you. Otherwise, you are at the
pursuant's Mercy.
●​ You erase all Insults on you which weren't crossed-out. Otherwise, you gain an Insult

Sex Plays
When you fuck someone else…

…roll +BOY if you clearly and enthusiastically consent and +FLAME otherwise. On a 6-, they
feel insects crawling along their body, and can see you for the monster you are. If they
don't want to allow one of your children inside of them, they must fight back. On a 7-9,
they can visibly see the child crawling under their body. Place a Nesting Bug Coin on them,
but they know it's there. On a 10+, they aren't even aware of what you've done to them.

When someone else fucks you…

…roll +GIRL if you clearly and enthusiastically consent and +THING otherwise. On a 6-,
they crush your body entirely beneath their weight, and you die. Take a Boon. Their guilt
may motivate them to act in your favor, or against you, or they may feel no guilt at all. On a

under your Sway, take a Boon. You may spend Boons on those under your Sway in order
to do one of the following:

●​ Write a Play down on a piece of paper and place it face-down before them. At any
moment, you may reveal the recorded Play and force them to attempt it. They get the
Boon if they do.
●​ Inform them that one of their non-ROT Stats is unbecoming. That Stat becomes locked,
and they must ask for your permission before making Plays with that Stat. If they're an
NPC, they will contort themselves to avoid behaving in that manner.
●​ Tell them they're wrong, negate any choice they've made or answer they've given, and
force them to provide a different choice or answer instead.

…speak their name, await their arrival, and roll +FLAME. On a 6-, they may arrive before
you if it pleases them, and when they do they may easily put you at their Mercy. On a 7-9,

entirely captivated. If they reject you, they're at your Mercy.

You must answer, even if you didn't want them to have it. They can keep asking as much as
they want, until you have nothing left to give, or they've gorged themself on you. On a 7-9,
tell them what more you want from them. They don't have to give it to you. On a 10+, ask
them what more they have to give. They must answer, even if unwilling. After they answer,
ask again. Keep taking from them until they have nothing left to give you, or you have
gorged yourself. It is likely whatever remains is no longer even a person.
Sex Plays

and may use it at any point as if they had the Mother Knows Best Play. On a 7-9, you both

When you have someone at your Mercy, you may instead choose to intoxicate them and

the dawn of the next day. Each Drug may be used exactly as an Insult, which lasts until the
Drug wears off (including reminding them of it, or them playing into it to gain a Boon).
Each time someone becomes intoxicated, choose 1:

●​ Aphrodisia and desire, stimulating sensitivity and libido. Those who take it also gain +1
GIRL for its duration.
●​ Energy, hype, blood-rush, quick to anger and quick to excite. Those who take it also gain
+1 BOY for its duration.
●​ Suggestibility and submissiveness, easy obedience and numbness. Those who take it also
gain +1 THING for its duration.
●​ Epiphany and enlightenment, hallucinations of other worlds and other ways of being.
Those who take it also gain +1 FLAME for its duration.
●​ Nausea and discomfort, gut-wrenching pain and diarrhea. Those who take it also gain
+2 ROT for its duration.
●​ Calm, sedation, reflection, and salvation from any pain. Those who take it also gain -1
ROT for its duration.
●​ Death by the dawn of the next day.

Like an Insult, Drugs can be reminded, underlined, and crossed-off. When a Drug is
crossed off in this way, erase it and put that person under your Sway. If you cross off a
Drug on you, take a Boon instead.
When you willingly intoxicate yourself or others…

…kiss each person involved, then roll +ROT. On a 6-, each person involved chooses 1 for
themself. On a 7-9, each person involved chooses 2. On a 10+, choose 1 for everyone, then
each person involved chooses 2.

●​ The drug works fully and completely. If not chosen, the drug is not enough, and you're
left wanting more.
●​ The experience goes exactly as you intended it. If not chosen, ask the HK what
memory, obligation, or person intrudes upon your experience.
●​ The drug works even better than you expected. Choose another effect for the drug
to cause. If not chosen, ask the HK to choose another effect for the drug to cause.
●​ The drugs have created the perfect headspace. You may ask a question of the other
people present, and they must answer truthfully. If not chosen, there are no special
revelations gained.

When you pull yourself together and present yourself properly…

…roll +BOY. No matter what, normal people who see you think you're a regular person,
and cannot tell that anything's wrong. They'll be generally willing to follow your lead and
will trust in your judgment. No one can remind you of any Insults you possess (or Drugs
you've imbibed) during this period. On a 6-, the HK can decide you lose control of your
facade at any moment. If you do, you immediately become dizzyingly sick and visibly soil
your clothing. Take +1 ROT. On a 7-9, the same as before, but you have enough warning
time to escape whatever situation you're in. On a 10+, the same as before, but you choose
when you lose control of your facade, and when you do, you take a Boon.

When you want someone, anyone, to care for you…

…roll +THING. Someone comes and finds you in your miserable state, and helps you pull
yourself back together. On a 6-, the HK chooses who finds you. They'll be someone cruel
and hungry, and in exchange for their care they will use you as they please. Take a Boon.
On a 7-9, the HK chooses who finds you. They'll be someone nice and compassionate,
perhaps one of your Guardians or someone else's. Take a Boon. On a 10+, you may choose
who finds you. They are under your Sway.
Sex Plays
When you fuck someone else…

…roll +BOY if you clearly and enthusiastically consent and +FLAME otherwise. On a 6-, your
body betrays you, and you puke out your guts. You are left weak and barely conscious, and
entirely at their Mercy. On a 7-9, you feel your body shake and churn. You must get
permission from the person you're fucking to release. If they give it to you, take -1 ROT,
and the person you're fucking is intoxicated. If they don't give you the release you need,
take +1 ROT and they intoxicate you. On a 10+, the same as the 7-9, but if one of you
becomes intoxicated, the other does as well.

When someone else fucks you…

…roll +GIRL if you clearly and enthusiastically consent and +THING otherwise. On a 6-,
your spit and cum are filled with the hemlock consuming you. The person who fucked you
will die by the dawn of the next day, unless they beg you for the antidote. On a 7-9, choose
one drug effect. They may choose whether they alone are intoxicated, or if they share it
with you. On a 10+, choose two drug effects. The other person is intoxicated with both of
them.

Power Among Mortals
In every interaction, no matter how inconsequential, Mortals are always attempting to
assess the social power they have over each other. The Plays they have at their disposal are
determined by how they see themself in comparison to the person they're acting against.
Their starting Power is determined by how they enter into the scene.

●​ Overlord Plays are for Mortals who believe they wield ultimate authority over the
other person. Parents, grownups with clear power (such as a gun or a badge), and
gangs of grownups all begin here.
●​ Authority Plays are for Mortals who believe they're confidently more powerful
than the other person. All other grownups begin here, as do gangs of teens.
●​ Bully Plays are for Mortals who believe they're on relatively equal terms, and thus
seek to improve their social status. All mundane children and teenagers begin here.
●​ Panicked Plays are for Mortals who have realized their weakness and are scared of
what happens to them next. Mortals rarely begin here, but they can be pushed here
through the actions of Teenagers.
●​ Broken Plays are for Mortals who believe they are utterly powerless. No Mortal
begins here, but they can be pushed here through the actions of Teenagers.

Whenever a Mortal is Changed, gains Rot, Insulted, put under someone's Sway, or put at
someone's Mercy, they decrease in Power.

You can track the position of each Mortal in a scene by writing their names on little pieces
of paper and sliding them up and down a track as their status shifts.

Overlord Plays
●​ Issue a declaration, rule, or law. Insult any Teenager who violates this law. You may
increase the Grade of any Teenager who follows the law.
●​ Order a Teenager to take immediate action and make a Play of your choice. If they
obey, Change them. If they don't obey, put them at your Mercy.
●​ Offer a Teenager what you think they want most in this world. If they take it, they're
under your Sway. If they openly reject it, they're at your Mercy.
●​ Underline an Insult: remind the Teenager of your social and political authority. If
they strike back against you, they will be a public enemy. Change their Grade to "X."

Authority Plays
●​ Offer the Teenager support, compassion, and wisdom. If they listen to you, they're
under your Sway.
●​ Point out a way in which the Teenager is behaving inappropriately (messy clothes,
nudity, excess Rot, etc.) If the Teenager doesn't immediately rectify this, or if their
Grade is B or lower, put them at your Mercy.
●​ Demand the Teenager follow your lead. If they do, Change them and increase their
Grade. If they refuse, Insult them and lower their Grade.
●​ Underline an Insult: put a Teenager in their place. If they yield, change from
"Authority" to "Overlord." If they don't yield, put them at your Mercy.

Bully Plays
●​ Offer the Teenager comfort, affection, or sex. If they accept it, give them a Boon.
●​ Point out a way in which the Teenager is behaving inappropriately (messy clothes,
nudity, excess Rot, etc.) If the Teenager reacts with shame or nervousness, or if
their Grade is a D or lower, Insult them.
●​ Corner the Teenager and underline an Insult, if they have one. If they do, put them
at your Mercy.
●​ Demonstrate power over the Teenager, by ganging up, pointing a weapon, or
wielding blackmail. If the Teenager doesn't rebuff you, change from "Bully" to
"Authority."

Panicked Plays
●​ Try to strike the Teenager. If the blow actually lands, they gain +1 ROT and change
from "Panicked" to "Bully."
●​ Give the Teenager what you think they want. If they accept it, change from
"Panicked" to "Bully."
●​ Attempt to retreat and consolidate power — find a weapon, gang up, or obtain
blackmail. If no one stops you, change from "Panicked" to "Bully."
●​ Freeze up and shut down. If no one helps you, change from "Panicked" to "Broken."
Broken Plays
●​ Break down crying.
●​ Meekly submit to whatever is demanded of you.
●​ Stammer out an apology and beg for forgiveness.

●​ Reveal a connection to one of the Teenager's Guardians, and Force a Change onto
that Teenager.
●​ Strip, humiliate, expose, or mock the Teenager, and give them an Insult in the
process.
●​ Underline an Insult: Fuck them, or kill them.
●​ (Overlord or Authority only) Penalize them for their actions, and decrease their
Grade.

Sway
When a Mortal has a Teenager under their Sway, the Mortal may Spend this Sway in order
to choose one of the following:

●​ Prevent the Teenager from making a Play, requiring them to choose a different
response.
●​ Compel the Teenager to fuck you.
●​ Pin them down and put them at your Mercy.
●​ Force the Teenager to submit to you in any fashion which pleases you, and increase
in Power.
When Mortals Are AGgrieved
When a mortal human is Changed, Insulted, Swayed, or put at a Teenager's Mercy, they
have an experience unlike anything in their normal life. They will immediately reduce in
Power.

This single act will then define who they are fundamentally until it can be resolved, and
they will always remember it as one of the most exciting moments of the year, if not their
life.

●​ A Mortal who has been Changed, even once, will shift their entire sense of self
around this change. The way they present their gender, carry themselves socially, or
how they choose to spend their time will be completely different.
●​ A Mortal who has been Swayed will devote themselves entirely to the person
swaying them, and may be willing to abandon previously held beliefs in their honor.
●​ A Mortal who has been Insulted will define themself entirely around this Insult,
with either dismal acceptance or furious rejection.
●​ A Mortal who gains Rot will be disgusted and appalled at the way their body has
changed. It will be entirely unfamiliar to them.
Mortals Having Sex
When a Mortal fucks someone, choose:

●​ They fall back satisfied, having gotten what they wanted, and will struggle to rouse
themselves to action once more. They increase in Power.
●​ They cannot get what they want, and they storm away in frustration, Insulting the
other as they go.

When a Mortal is fucked by someone, choose:

●​ They compose themselves and let the world carry them. After sex, they may ask
one question or make one demand of the person who fucked them, and may Insult
them if they don't comply.
●​ Their mind has been distorted by the experience, their world altered. Ask the
person fucking them to Change them.

Hawkmoth-Chan says:

When Hawkmoth-Chan fucks someone, roll +the number of Boons they


currently possess. On a 6-, Hawkmoth-Chan is left wanting them to be more.
He forces a Change upon them, and then they gain +1 ROT. On a 7-9,
Hawkmoth-Chan is amused and delighted by the experience. They get a
Boon, and he Insults them. On a 10+, Hawkmoth-Chan pleasures himself off
of their body until he is satisfied. The person he's fucking gets a Boon, and
then dies.

When Hawkmoth-Chan is fucked by someone, roll +the number of Boons


they currently possess. On a 6-, they aren't nearly enough for him. He Insults
them, and they are under his Sway. On a 7-9, Hawkmoth-Chan is pleased and
satisfied by the experience. The person fucking him gets -1 ROT and is under
his Sway. On a 10+, Hawkmoth-Chan is overwhelmed by ecstasy and
pleasure. The person fucking him gets a Boon and may ask him any question,
which he must truthfully answer.
