A Short Story – The Clever Rabbit

Once upon a time, deep inside a thick green forest, lived a fierce lion.
He was strong, powerful, and feared by all the animals. Every day, the
lion would hunt down animals for his meal. The animals of the jungle
were living in constant fear. They held a meeting and decided to
approach the lion with a request. They told him that instead of him
killing many animals every day, they would send one animal daily as his
food. The lion agreed, as he felt it was an easy way to get his meal
without effort.

The animals began to send one among them daily to the lion’s den. It
continued for many days. But soon the animals grew sad and hopeless, as
one after another, their friends and family were sacrificed to the lion.
The animals wanted to be free from this danger. Then one day, it was the
turn of a clever little rabbit. Instead of being afraid, he decided to
think of a plan to save all the animals of the jungle.

The rabbit walked slowly toward the lion’s den, deliberately making
himself late. The lion grew angry when he saw the rabbit arriving late.
“How dare you keep me waiting for my food?” roared the lion. The rabbit,
without losing his calm, said, “Oh mighty lion, forgive me for being
late. On my way here, I was stopped by another lion who claimed to be
the true king of this jungle. He said he was stronger and braver than
you!”

The lion’s pride was hurt. He could not believe that another lion dared
to challenge his power. “Take me to this lion immediately!” he roared.
The clever rabbit led the lion to a deep well filled with water.
Pointing towards the well, the rabbit said, “The lion lives inside and
waits for you.” The lion peered inside the well and saw his own
reflection in the water. Thinking it was the rival lion, he jumped into
the well with a loud roar to fight him. But alas! The lion fell into the
water and drowned.

From that day, the jungle became a peaceful place again. All the animals
celebrated and thanked the clever rabbit for his wisdom and bravery. The
story teaches us that intelligence and courage are stronger than brute
strength. Even the smallest creature can overcome the biggest challenge
with clever thinking.
