correct answer A, B, C or D on your answer sheet.
Winter Driving
Winter is dangerous because it's so difficult to know what is going to
happen and accidents take place so easily. Fog can be waiting to meet you
over the top of a hill. Ice might be hiding beneath the melting snow, waiting
to send you off the road. The car coming towards you may suddenly slide
across the road.
Rule number one for driving on icy roads is to drive smoothly.
Uneven movements can make a car suddenly very difficult to control. So
every time you either turn the wheel, touch the brakes or increase your
speed, you must be as gentle and slow as possible. Imagine you are driving
with a full cup of hot coffee on the seat next to you. Drive so that you
wouldn't spill it.
Rule number two is to pay attention to what might happen. The more
ice there is, the further down the road you have to look. Test how long it
takes to stop by gently braking. Remember that you may be driving more
quickly than you think.
In general, allow double your normal stopping distance when the road
is wet, three times this distance on snow, and even more on ice. Try to stay
in control of your car at all times and you will avoid trouble.

A. People drive too fast in winter.
B. People should avoid driving in the snow.
C. Drivers should expect problems in winter.
D. Winter drivers should use their brakes less.
14. Why does the writer talk about a cup of coffee?
A. because he thinks refreshments are important for drivers
B. to explain the importance of smooth movements
C. because he wants drivers to be more relaxed
D. to show how it can be spilled
15 Which traffic sign shows the main idea of the text?

WRITING TEST
Time allowed: 45 minutes
======================================================

PART 1:

You are Ann. Write a letter to your penfriend, Vivian in about 120 words to
tell him/ her about a movie you watched recently, including information
about:

- What type of movie it was;

- What it was about;
- Where you watched it;
And explain whether you would like to watch it again.

You do NOT need to write any address.

Dear Vivian,
How are you these days? I hope you are fine. In response to your letter dated
last Friday asking me about the film I have watched recently, I am writing
this letter to describe it. Last week, I bought two tickets for the film The
Titanic to watch it with my girlfriend. We went to the cinema together and
enjoyed the film to the last minute. It lasted 90 minutes. The Titanic is a
tragic-romantic film, describing the love story between a man from the
working class and a beautiful girl. They boarded the biggest sea vessel ever.
One night, the ship hit a huge ice-berg and sank. The man died while the girl
was rescued. Later, she revealed (tiết lộ) her secret that shocked the public.
It was the most interesting film I’ve ever seen so far.

What about you? What kind of film do you like? Hope to see you soon

Sincerely yours
Ann

PART 2: Write an about 150-word essay to express your opinions on the
following question:
Do you prefer to shop in street shops or shopping mall?

Different people may have different tastes for shopping. Some

prefer to shop in street shops while others like shopping malls. Each kind of
shopping place has its own advantages and disadvantages. Whether one may
shop in either of these places depends on their characteristics: age, sex,
shopping needs… For me, as a 36-year-old father of a daughter, I like the
shopping mall. There are some reasons why I like it.
Firstly, a shopping mall is not merely where you buy goods. It
includes many other services such as entertainment, cinema, food & drink,
games for children…, which is especially relevant for families with small
children because the child may enjoy games while the parents are looking
for goods.
Secondly, as a trade giant in retail area, a shopping mall chooses to
sell only certified goods. This can provide you with assurance against
inferior or fake products, which you can’t have in a street shop.
Despite some disadvantages like higher prices, inconvenience…,
shopping mall offers customers more benefits. That is why it is becoming a
shopping trend.
