                       INTRODUCTION
A field trip or excursion is a journey by a group of people to a place
away from their normal environment. The purpose of the field trip is
usually observation for education, nonexperimental research or to
provide students with experiences outside their everyday activities,
such as going camping with teachers and their classmates. The aim of
this research is to observe the subject in its natural state and possibly
collect samples. It is seen that moreadvantaged children may have
already experienced cultural institutions outside of school, and field
trips provide common ground with more-advantaged and less-
advantaged children to have some of the same cultural experiences in
the arts.
Botany is a branch of biology which deals with the study of diverse
plants and interactions with related factors. Keeping this in view,
Botany department of Handique Girls’ College, Guwahati took the
initiative and arranged a botanical field trip to Kaziranga National
Park, Assam. A detail account of the prime place of visit i.e., study of
different varieties of plant diversity and the information collected from
there has been mentioned in this report. Hope this will help to
understand different varieties of plant varieties and their usefulness on
our day to day life.
                                                                 5|Page
            IMPORTANCE OF FIELD TRIPS
Going on a field trip enhances their critical thinking skills and gives
students a chance to think about a topic or theme from a different
perspective. Several students don't get to experience the typical field
trip locations with their families. A college trip gives students the
chance to experience new venues. It is common knowledge that
student are easily distracted and bored. School field trips build in
student a different level of excitement and fun. It gives them
something to look forward to. In essence, field trips erase the
boredom that is associated with classroom lectures. What’s more, it
awakens in students an interest to learn and get new learning
information, no matter how boring the subject is in theory.
While organizing a field trip with so many students definitely comes
with its fair share of trials and tribulations, the benefits far outweigh
the logistical difficulties. Field trips can bring one dimensional
lessons to life and create interest for a subject, something that is hard
to duplicate through classroom lectures. Field trips enrich and expand
the curriculum, strengthen observation skills by immersing students
into sensory activities, increase student's knowledge in a particular
subject area and expand student's awareness of their own community.
And everyone you speak with has a field trip memory.
                                                                 6|Page
                ABOUT THE JOURNEY
In the morning of 26th November, 2022 at around 6:00 am we
reported at the college premises and at around 6:30 am departed to
Kaziranga National Park. We boarded a bus and a total of 33 people
including professors and driver drove us to our site. We stopped at
Jagiroad for breakfast before continuing the journey. Finally around
1:00 pm we arrived at Banashree/ Bonani Tourist lodge, Kohora
where we were led to our room. After freshning up and having lunch,
at around 2:00 pm, we went for the jeep safari in the Kaziranga
National Park. We got to see many different animals such as one
horned rhinoceros, swamp deers, herds of elephants, macaque, fox
etc.. The jeep safari ended at 4:00 pm . We ended the day with an
evening tea followed by the dinner at 9:00 pm.
The next day i.e 27th of November, 2022, our professors and a few
students decided on an early morning walk near Kohora. It was
delightful as we got to explore the natural vegetation, farm fields,
forests, waterfalls and also we saw the practoce of rubber extraction
from the trees. After the morning walk, we xame back to the lodge for
the breakfast. At around 9:00 am, we checked out from the lodge with
our luggages and left for a visit to Kaziranga National Orchid and
Biodiversity Park. The park houses around 600 varieties of wild
orchids collected from across the North- eastern region. We learnt
about the preservation of these wild varieties of orchids and about
their values. In addition, the park also houses a rice museum, a place
for folk-cultural practices, ethenic food stall, etc.
Our professors also took us to explore the local traditional market in
Kohora. After lunch at around 1:00 pm, we were headed back to
Guwahati. The overall journey to the Kaziranga National Park and
Kaziranga Orchid and Biodiversity Park was quite a learning
experience for us since it gave us a practical viewpoint on our studies
and the subject along with enjoyment and exploration.
