The Mysterious Footprints
One cold winter morning, Maya woke up and looked out of her window. Her
backyard was covered in fresh snow. But something unusual caught her eye —
a trail of small footprints leading from the back fence to the shed.
Maya quickly put on her coat and boots and stepped outside. The footprints
were round and closely spaced. “They don’t look like any animal I know,” she
thought. She followed them carefully. As she reached the shed, she noticed the
door was slightly open.
Cautiously, she pulled the door wider. Inside, sitting on an old blanket, was a
tiny brown rabbit. It looked up at her with big eyes but didn’t move. Maya
smiled and whispered, “You must have been looking for a warm place.”
She gently placed some lettuce from the kitchen in front of the rabbit and left
the door open a little so it could leave if it wanted. Every morning after that,
Maya checked the shed and left some food. The footprints came back each day.
