In many countries, children are becoming overweight and unhealthy.

Some
people think that the government should have the responsibility. To what extent
do you agree or disagree?
In several countries, children are increasingly putting on weight and faced with
health deterioration, and it is thought that governments are responsible for taking
action to ameliorate this problem. While I concur with this verdict, I believe that
schools and parents also play an indispensable role.
On the one hand, there are some reasons why governments are in charge of the
betterment of children’s health. Firstly, children only consume what is sold on the
market, and governments hold the whole right to regulate it. For example, they can
release an outright ban on fat-rich fast foods which are believed to be the main
culprit of obesity. As a result, the number of overweight young people may shrink.
Secondly, governments can censor advertisements targeting children in order to
deter producers from manipulating children to consume unhealthy foods or
drinks. On the other hand, not only governments but both parents and schools
should also shoulder the responsibility to enhance children’s health. The initial
reason is that children cannot make their own purchases since they have yet to
make money. Parents should control how their offspring use allowances so as to
prevent them from buying and eating unhealthy products. Besides, schools can also
educate children and their parents about a balanced diet. Being aware of which
nutrients are essential and what puts their health in jeopardy, children can
balance their meals and curb the intake of hazardous substances.
In conclusion, I believe that governments, together with schools and parents,
should have various solutions to improve youngsters’ physical health. It is never
the government’s duty only.
