Dear Cadet,
TORM’s Deck Cadet Record Book has been primarily created to ensure that the Cadet training is aligned
with TORM’s expectations.
In order to avoid duplication, the Record book has been created after carrying out a thorough review of the
various Administration-issued Cadet Training Record Books / Structured Shipboard Training Program. It is
important to note, that the Record book is not meant to be a substitute to the respective Administration /
Govt. issued record books for Cadets. However, it is important for every TORM Cadet, to complete the
Record book, prior completion of his onboard training period.
As indicated, the intent of this book is to make it TORM specific and align your cadet training with TORM’s
values and expectations.
‘One Torm Safety Culture’, including ‘Safety I’s’, shall be the guiding principles, as you approach your
training-related tasks.
For any further clarifications regarding the use of this book, please feel free to contact your respective
MHR / Training department.
Wishing you safe voyages!
NOTE: The QMS procedures, forms, checklists, etc. listed in the tasks are only for reference and are
subject to continuous revision. Always refer to the latest revisions in SERTICA.
The PDF copy of the Deck and Engine Cadet Record book is available under QMS procedure 01.03.06.09

GUIDANCE NOTES
• All tasks shall be completed under the supervision of the relevant Supervising Officer / Shipboard Training
Officer (STO). Upon completion, it shall be signed by the officer, with appropriate comments.
• All tasks are divided into the following two categories:
KNOWLEDGE-BASED tasks
ASSIGNMENT-BASED tasks
And, the related Development levels are divided into the following three levels:
CAPABLE : the person has gained sufficient knowledge
QUALIFIED : the person has gained sufficient knowledge and understanding
PROFICIENT : the person has gained sufficient knowledge, understanding and is
also practicing/implementing it during the daily tasks
The STO/ supervising Officer is to evaluate the cadet basis the above levels.
• Learning Tools (LTs) : These are various references ( e.g. QMS, programs, etc.) mentioned along with the tasks,
in order to achieve the Torm-specific learning.
• Knowledge-based tasks need not be documented on paper. The STO / Supervising Officer is to evaluate the
cadet’s knowledge (basis of LTs) and mark the appropriate ‘development level’.
• Assignment-based tasks must be handwritten and maintained separately in sheets. A ‘Sample Assignment
answer sheet’ is provided at the end of this book. The Cadet is expected to take print- outs of the sample
sheet and use it for answering each assignment question. The Cadet may attach pictures or other attachments,
as required.
• Development levels can be achieved by a cadet in ‘increasing’ levels (‘capable’ to ‘qualified’ to ‘proficient’)
during various phases of his/her sea time and as verified by the STO/ Supervising Officer.
• All assignments should be verified and signed by the STO/ supervising Officer .
• The completed Record book, including the various assignments, will have to be presented to the respective
Training/ MHR departments, upon completion of training.
• The training tasks are not exhaustive in nature and hence, the cadets are encouraged to add any topics of
interest and understudy the same (e.g. new technologies, major overhauls, etc.)
