1. Tools in Directing
Directing in nursing management involves guiding, supervising, motivating, and
communicating with the healthcare team to achieve organizational goals. The tools include:

• Motivation – inspiring nurses to perform at their best (e.g., rewards, recognition,


professional growth).
• Communication – ensuring clear, effective, and open flow of information among staff
and patients.
• Supervision – overseeing nursing activities to ensure standards of care are met.
• Leadership – influencing staff to align with the vision and mission of the health facility.
• Delegation – assigning appropriate tasks to the right person based on skills and
competencies.

2. Elements of Directing
• Issuing Orders/Instructions – providing clear guidance on what needs to be done.
• Supervision & Monitoring – checking that nursing tasks are carried out effectively.
• Motivating Staff – encouraging nurses to maintain high performance and morale.
• Leadership – guiding and inspiring the team with vision and example.
