1. Pick one (1) social-media website, app, or another popular service.
-FACEBOOK
2. Look up the privacy policy for that site, app, or service, and briefly explain and
discuss the following questions:
1. What does the privacy policy for the app/site/service you chose say about:
a. What data is collected by the company;
-Much of the information Facebook gathers comes from information we voluntarily provide
by posting it on our page, in posts, or in comments. However, Facebook may also collect
additional information about you through interactions, such as liking other posts
or pages, leaving comments, sending messages, and even deciding whether to view a
video with or without sound.
b. What your data can be used for;
-In addition, we gather data and material that users of our services provide to us,
including personal data about you from things like messages sent to you, photos
shared of you, and contacts uploaded, synced, or imported.
c. Who they share your data with; and
-The audience you select to share with is what you share when you use our
services to communicate. On Facebook, for instance, you may choose who will see your
post: all of your Friends, a certain of people, or members of your custom audience.
Similarly, with Messenger, you have the option to select who you chat with or send pictures
to.
d. What those third parties can use your data for.
-Facebook provides user data access to specific third parties. This covers businesses that
offer services like analytics and advertising agencies in addition to Facebook-integrated
apps. Although it doesn't sell user data, according to the privacy policy, it does exchange
information with these third parties so they may enhance services and provide more
relevant adverts.
2. Based on your observation, what are the rooms for improvement that you can
suggest in their privacy policies?
-Facebook needs to spend more time listening to its users. Although the company realizes
that it can’t always give in to users’ demands, it also needs to realize that the users need to
be happy with the way things are going. Part of the reason Facebook is facing all this
trouble today is its desire to increase its bottom line through advertising. One of the first
things Facebook should do is establish a quick-response security team.
