Applications of d& f Block

(ⅰ) Lathanolds used as a catalyst in petroleum cracking

(ii) Lanthanoids are used in producing alloys.

(iii) Oxides of lanthanoids are used to produce red colour on television screen

(iv) Actinoids are used in in nuclear reactors for production of electricity.

(v) Gold, silver and copper along with group 11 element are called coinage metal

(vi) TiO2 is used in pigment industry and MnO2 is used in dry battery cell

(vii) Zn , Ni , and Cd are used in battery industry.

(viii) V2O5 catalyst is used in the oxidation of SO2 in the manufacture of sulphuric acid(contact
process)

(ix) Zingler’s catalyst [TiCl4 + Al (CH3)3 ] used in the manufacture of polythene

(x) Iron catalyst are used in haber's process for the production of ammonia

(xi)PdCl2 is used as a catalyst in the oxidation of ethyne to ethanal in the Wacker’s process.

(xii) Photographic industry relies on the light sensitive property of AgBr.
