Full form of MS-DOS is Micro soft disk operating system.
M-Micro
S- Soft
D- Disk
O- Operating

are made. It is very important for us, because with the help of it we can fill required soft
ware in computer system.

Disk-
Disk is a storing place in which we can store different types of files and folders.
There are three types of disk:-
They are- Floppy disk, Compact disk and Hard disk.
Floppy disk- It is a storing place in which we can store files and folders.
It has no lot of space in it we can store short matter or small files. It is very important
unit for us because by the help of it we load or unload any matter from one system to
another.
Compact disk- It is also a storing place in which we can store different types of files or
folders.
It has lot of space compare than floppy disk. It is also a very important unit for us.
Hard disk- It is very important unit for computer system. Without it we can no save any
file in computer system .Memory capacity of computer is depending upon hard disk.
Hard disk is also a storing place in it we can load different types of files and folders.
It has lot of space compare than floppy disk and compact disk.
Today 20 GB to 80 GB hard disk is available in the market.
Operating system-
Operating system is the most important for computer without it we can not do any
work .It is the soul of computer.

At first, place the cursor to the start menu after placing click on it after clicking a chart

after that you will get only c/> prompt after getting type cd st and press enter key

After getting C/ST/> prompt if you want to close Ms- Dos in this condition type exit

In computer prompt means to ready to accept any commands.

What is cursor? What is the function of cursor?
A blinking part /dot/thing /line; which is present on the screen is called cursor.
Function of cursor- whatever we want to write that is started on the cursor position.
Hence, cursor is the most important for us because on the cursor position we can
write any thing without cursor we can not write any thing on the screen.

There are two types of Ms-Dos commands –
1) Internal command-Such commands, which is run without any extra file is called
internal commands.
Such as- Time command, Date command, cls command and others.
Or, which does not need extra file to run is called internal commands.
2).External command- Such commands which is run with the help of extra file is called
external commands.
Such as – edit, attrib, delete and others.
Or, which needs extra file to run is called external commands.
How to exit from current dir?
By using cd.. Command we can exit from current directory.
C/windows> CD.. And press enter key

C/> CD ST and press enter key.

How to use this command?
Type cd.. and press enter key on the current prompt then we can get only c/> after

that type cd St and press enter key after pressing you will get C/ST/> prompt.

DATE COMMAND-
By this command we can get current date on the dos screen.
Process- type date on C/ST/> prompt and press enter key after pressing you will get-
Current date is Tue 05/09/2006
Enter new date-(MM-DD-YY)
Note- If you want to apply new date in this condition type new date on the cursor
position and press enter key after pressing computer accept the new date which is
given by us.
 Time command-
By this command we can get current time on the screen of dos.
Process- type time on the C/ST/> prompt after that press enter key after pressing you
will get-

Enter new time: -
Note- If you want to change the time in this condition type new time on the cursor
position and press enter key after pressing computer accept the new time which is
given by us.
CLS command-
By this command we can remove the all matter which is present on dos screen.
After removing we will get only C/ST/> prompt on the screen.

How to make file in MS-Dos?

By edit command we can make file in Ms- Dos.

Process- type edit file name after that press enter key after pressing a beautiful
screen will appear on the dos screen now write required matter and save it by file
menu.

SYNTAX- Edit file name (which you want) and press enter key.
How to save any matter in particular file?
After writing if you want to save it in this condition click on file/save.
Or, press Alt+F and press S in this way you can save the current file.
How to exit any file?
After saving if you want to exit it and get black surface in this condition click on file
/exit.
Or, press Alt+F and press X in this way you can get black surface of Ms –Dos.
How to open any file?
By edit command we can open any file also.

Process- type edit old file name and press enter key after pressing your file will
open.

By type command we can view any file.

Process- Type file name and press enter key after pressing you will get all
information about file.
How to delete any file?
By Del command we can delete any file.
 Process- Del file name and press enter key.

1. Dir means directory.
2. It is used to display –list of files and directories.
3. Directory command shows following information-
By the directory command we can get name of files, size, date and time and others.
4. No. of files
5. NO. of directories
6. Total used space.
7. Total free space.
Note- after getting c/st> prompt if you type DIR and press enter key after pressing
you will get more information about files and directories.

Dir/P-By this command computer shows list of files or directories page wise.
Dir/w- By this command computer shows list of files or directories wide wise.
Dir/S- By this command computer shows list with subdirectories.
Dir/ON- By this command computer shows list shorted order by name (A to Z)
DIR/O-N: - By this command computer shows list shorted order by name (Z to A)
Dir/OE- Shorted order by extenuation (A to Z)

DIR/ O-E: - Shorted order by extenuation (z to A)

Dir /OS- shorted order by size (small to large)

Dir/O-S - Shorted order by size (large to small)
Dir/OD- Shorted order by date and time (previous to current)
DIR/O-D- Shorted order hidden files. By date and time (current to previous)
DIR/AH- To show hidden files.
Dir/B- To display only file name.
DIR/AR- To display only read only file.
DIR/AS- To display only system files.

DIR A*- By this command we can display only file or directory which is started
with A.

Dir B*- By this command we can display only file or directory which is started
with B.
Similarly you can show more files or directories.
How to make any dir?
By Md command we can create dir.
 Process- type MD file name (New) and press enter key.
How to select any dir?
By cd command we can select any dir.

Process -Type cd dir name and press enter key after pressing dir will be selected at a
time.
How to make any file under the selected dir?

At first select the required dir after selection type edit file name and press enter key
after pressing your file will make under the selected dir.
How to make sub dir under any dir
At first select the required dir, after selection type

MD dir name and press enter key.

Syntax-cd dir name and press enter key.

After that type MD dir name and press enter key.

How to view any dir?
At first select the required dir after selection type dir and press enter key after pressing

Width wise-
1. file name with extension.
2. Maximum -105
Page wise-
1. file name 4. date
2. extension 5. time
3. Size
How to create batch file?
By using edit command we can create batch file.
Process-

On the c:/st> prompt type edit file name. Bat and press enter key after pressing enter edit
menu screen will display.
Now type required command.
As- Date, Time, Dir and other command line by line pressing enter.
To save current file click on file/save and to close edit menu screen click on file/exit.
In this way you will come back on the current prompt.
Now, if you want to run batch file type only file name and press enter. As

Write the function of deltree command?

If you want to delete any dir in this condition type deltree dir name after that press enter key after
pressing required dir will be deleted.

Syntax- deltree dir name and press enter key.

Rename command – By this command we can change the name of file.
Process- If you want to change the name any old file in this condition type Ren blank space old file
name blank space new file name and press enter key.

Syntax- Ren old file name new file name and press enter key.
Move command-By this command we can insert the file in a particular dir.

Syntax – Move old file name old dir name and press enter key.
Copy command-by this command we can copy into one file to another.

Syntax- copy old file name new file name and press enter key.

Attrib command
It is used to make hide, unhide, read only and normal.

To hide- If you want to hide any file in this condition type attrib file name +H and press enter
key.

To unhide- If you want to unhide any file in this condition type attrib file name -H and press
enter key.

To read only- If you want to read only in this condition type attrib file name +R and press
enter key.

To Normal- If you want to make normal in this condition type attrib file name -R and press
enter key.
How to change drive?
If you want to change drive in this condition use the following rules:-
C/ST> D: and press enter key
D> E: and press enter key
E> F: and press enter key
F> C: and press enter key

Syntax- doskey and press enter key.
