Political Agendas should not be pursued by blocking roads

“Blocking roads to push politics only stalls the people, not the problem,” a quote going viral around social
media. This is especially true for our country where people go on strikes for the most basic demands, and
block the road. I strongly support the idea that road blockades should not be allowed to realize political
agenda because it causes workers to be late to work, disruptions of law and order, and making a lot of
noise pollution as well as littering.

Firstly, blocking the roads causes traffic congestions that cause workers to be late to their jobs. Sitting in
traffic for hours can cause a mental drain leading to lower productivities at work. They may also have to
give late fines or get scoldings from their superiors. Likewise, due to traffic, students and faculties may be
delayed to their classes.

Moreover, the protesting crowd often commit arson on vehicles and other public properties displaying a
lack of law and order. These can cause safety hazards as the fire from burning vehicles can quickly spread
if not handled carefully. Furthermore, the loud chanting causes a lot of noise pollution, affecting nearby
societies. Additionally, the protestors often litter the path they tread on, throwing plastic bottles, banners,
etc. This contributes to the rising pollution of our city, effects that become more visible during the
monsoons when manholes get clogged due plastic bottles.

Nonetheless, critics argue that blocking roads to realize political agendas is necessary as it garners the
most attention from the general public and government. This often gets massive media coverage and
becomes the front page on newspapers. However, I believe that this works counter-productively as it fails
to garner the general public’s support but they rather feel a sense of annoyance towards the protesting
crowd, who are making their life difficult.

In conclusion, I strongly oppose the idea of blocking roads to realize political agendas as it disturbs the
normal life of the general population, causes disruptions in the law and order, and pollutes the
environment. They should instead do demonstrations in front of government bodies to bring about
changes.
