                PRACTICING CABLING WORKS IN ANETWORK
 Aim
        To practice the following cabling works in a network. a) Cable Grimping b)
CStandard
 tester.
          Cabling c) Cross Cabling d) Testing the Crimped cable using a cable
 Atems Required
       Crimping tool
        RJ45 connectors
        Ethernet cable (Cat5e, Cat6)
        Ethernet cable tester
 Procedure
    a) Cable Crimping
    1. Prepare the Cable:
               Strip about I inch(atbout 2.5cm) of the cable's outer sheath using a
               cable stripper.
               Expose the four twisted pairs of wires inside the cable.
    2. Untwist the Pairs:
               Separate the twisted pairs and untwist them.
               Straighten the individual wires for easier alignment.
    3. Arrange the Wires:
               Follow the required wiring standard (T568A or T568B).
               Align the wires in the correct color order and ensure they are flat and
               untangled.

4 Trim the Wires:
           Cut the wires evenly, leaving about 2 inch(1.3 cm) of exposed wire.
5. JAsert into RJ-45 Connector:
      o Hold the connector with the clip facing down.

         o Push the wires into the connector until they reach the end, ensuring
            each wire fits into its slot.
Ñ. Crimp the Connector:
            Place the connector into the crimping tool.
            Squeeze the tool firmlyto secure the connector to the cable.
   7. Remove the cable from the tool:
         o Remove the cable from the tool and check that all of the pins are
            down in an even line.
            Lightly tug at the connector to make sure it's attached to the cable.
  8. Repeat for the Other End:
            If creating a straight-through cable, repeat the same wiring pattern.
            Ifcreating a crossover cable, use the other wiring standard for the
            second connector.
   b) Standard Cabling
     Follow the above procedure given for cable crimping. Follow the wiring
     standard T568B. For the other end of the cable, repeat the same pattern
      i.e., with same colour order. This type of cabling is used to connect different
     types of devices (e.g., computer to switch, router to moden)

 Cross Cabling
Collow the above procedure given for cable crimping. For one end, use
TS68A and for the other end, use T568B. Use this type of cabling for
connecting similar devices directly (e.g., computer to computer, switch to
switch).

   d) Testing the Crimped cable using a Cable tester
    1. Checking standard cabling
Connect the Cable to the Tester
       Plug one end of the standard cable into the main testing unit (marked as
       "MAIN" or "TX").
   " Plug the other end into the remote testing unit (marked as "REMOTE" or
       "RX").

       Switch on the cable tester.
       Most testers have LED indicators for each pin (1-8) and an additional
       ground (if present).
(Observe the LED Indicators
   A. The tester will run a sequence test:
             o LEDS will light up in order from 1to 8, indicating the continuity and
                order of the wires.
                 For a standard cable, the LEDs on both the main and remote units
                should light up in the same order.
           o Example:
                       Pin 1lights up on the main unit ’ Pin 1 lights up on the
                       remote unit.
                       Pin 2 lights up on the main unit’ Pin 2 lights up on the
                       remote unit, and sO on.
  2. If al LEDs light up in sequence, the cable is correctly crimped.
Jnterpet Results
      Pass:
                 All pins (1 to 8) light up sequentially, matching on both main and
                remote units.
      Fait
                One or more LEDs do not light up (indicates a break in the wire).
           o LEDs light up out of sequence (indicates incorrect wiring order),.

              Multiple LEDs light up simultaneously (indicates a short circuit).
froubleshootif Necessary
                   fails:
     If the test
         1. Check for proper insertion of wires into the RJ45 connector.
         2. Ensure wires are arranged according to the selected standard
              (T568A or T568B).
         3. Re-crimp the cable if necessary and retest.
   9 Checking cross cabling
 Connéct. the Catble to the Tester
   4 Plug one end of the cross cable into the main testing unit.
   2. Plug the other end into the remote testing unit.
                        Tester
Túrn On the Cable
      Power on the cable tester.
     Most testers have LED indicators for pins 1 through 8, showing how each
     pin is connected between the ends.
Observe the LED Indicators
   A. The tester willrun a sequence to check connections.
              For cross cables, Pin 1 on one end should connect to Pin 3 on
              the other end, and so on, according to the cross cabling pattern.
  2 If the cable is correctly wired, the LEDs will light up in the following cross
     pattern:
              Main Unit Pin 1 ’ Remote Unit Pin 3
              Main Unit Pin 2’ Remote Unit Pin 6
              Main Unit Pin 3’ Remote Unit Pin 1
             Remaining pins (4, 5, 7, 8) should match directly.
Interpret Results
      Pass:
          gAlconnections light up according to the cross-cabling pattern.

      Fail:
               MissingLEDs or mismatched      sequencesindicate:
                                                            connectors.
                     Incorrect wire placement in the RJ45
                     Broken or shorted wires.
Troubleshoot if Necessary
                                                         other end using T568B.
     Verify that one end is crimped using T568A and the
                                               the wires are fully inserted and
 LZ. Gheck the RJ45 connectors to ensure
     arranged in the correct sequence.
   3. Re-crimp the cable if necessary and retest.
Result
                                                                             crimped
       Thuscable crimping, standard cabling, cross cabling and testing the
cable using a cable tester are practiced successfully.
