DD 5E - Tarot Card Homebrew System

The Dungeon & Dragons Tarot Card System allows players to roll dice to determine their past, present, and future through a tarot card reading. Players roll a 1d12 to choose a card and then a 1d4 to select between two options for each card, with meanings provided for each card. An alternative method involves drawing cards from a shuffled deck to represent the same temporal aspects of a player's journey.

Dungeon & Dragons Tarot Card System:

____________________________________________________________________________________

1. Have a player roll a 1d12, once the player tells the DM the result of the roll the
DM will look at the Tarot Card Table. (If a player is giving an NPC a reading
then the roles are reversed.)
2. There are two different cards in each section of the table, roll 1d4 to determine
which card is drawn: Odds are the first & Evens are the second.
3. Their first roll is the card that represents their past, second will be their present, and their
third roll represents their future.
4. These futures are but only possible outcomes, nothing is set in stone.
Useful Tip: For a dungeon master it can be handy to write down what player got what cards in
what order and refer to their backstory for any future plot development.

Alternative Ruling:
An alternative way of giving a tarot card reading is by doing it regularly with tarot cards with the
listed cards.
1. Shuffle the deck and have the character draw a card but not look at it, just place it down to
their left, have the player draw again and place it in front of them, and finally draw the third
card and place it to their right.
2. The card on their left represents the past, the card in the middle represents the present, and
the third and final card represents the future.
3. Flip over the cards from past, present, and future in that order and give that player their
fortune.
