Advanced Work Packaging/Workface Planning
AWP: A disciplined approach for project planning that is directed at the construction
workface. Coordinated Construction & Engineering work packages are developed
early-on to support path of construction
Key requirement is early collaboration between Engineering & Construction to ensure
that design & material are delivered with a sequence that supports construction. The
process ultimately ensures that all constraints have been addressed
WFP: The practice, by Contractor, to develop early detailed “constraint-free”
Installation Work Packages (IWPs) for site crews. This increased early preparation
should improve safety, productivity and predictability
Fabrication
Major clients in Oil & Gas, Energy and Chemical industry are mandating the
implementation of AWP/WFP
Construction Industry Institute (CII) reported more than 10% improvement in safety,
productivity, and quality

50
Workface Planning at CCC
In 2008, informal WFP implementation in a project led to 10% piping progress
improvement and 16% reduction in piping punch list items
In 2015, first formal implementation at the Rabab Harweel Integrated Project, Oman.
Received Shell award for best implementation. Project successfully completed on
time and within budget
CCC is currently implementing WFP in several major oil & gas projects
CCC has developed 3D database-driven software (C3D) to manage the creation of
IWPs, identify & clear constraints, plan IWPs, issue various work orders to different
crews and report progress Fabrication

CCC has been a major sponsor of AWP/WFP annual conference in Houston since
2014
CCC is a major contributor to advancing AWP/WFP practice through active
participation in several CII research teams
