Salient Features of Indian Society
Multi-ethnicity, multi-religiosity, caste-based structure, collective family systems, and deep-rooted traditions shape Indian
society. These features are key to understanding the complex social dynamics in India.
Diversity of India
India's diversity spans languages (22 official + 1600 dialects), religions (Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, etc.), castes,
tribal communities, and geography. This diversity is both a strength and a challenge for governance.
Role of Women and Women's Organizations
Covers issues of gender inequality, empowerment, legal protection (e.g., Domestic Violence Act), and contribution of
SHGs and NGOs in uplifting women.
Population and Associated Issues
Challenges include overpopulation, demographic dividend, youth employment, aging population, and pressure on
resources.
Poverty and Developmental Issues
Includes absolute vs relative poverty, HDI/MPI indices, government schemes like MGNREGA and Ujjwala Yojana for
welfare and upliftment.

divisive; Indian secularism ensures religious harmony.
