Palm trees (Cocos Nucifera)
Palm trees prefer warmer climates such as deserts or tropical
islands. The most popular palm tree Cocos Nucifera is located in Southern
California,Florida, and the Caribbean. The leaves of a palm tree called fronds are very
easy to recognize. The large leaves are divided into tiny segments. Because of this, the
leaves are able to survive strong winds and even hurricanes! The extensive system of
the roots helps the tree be protected in harsh weather. A palm tree may be an
evergreen but it isn’t a conifer. Unlike other trees, the palm tree is not a monocot. The
average height of a palm tree is 32-50 feet. The circumference of a palm tree trunk is
30-45m while the leaves are 4-6m.
There are more than 2,750 types of palm trees in the world
That number grows everyday as different people create hybrid palm trees. Palm trees
are differentiated into different types based on their height, leaves, and looks.
The most amazing thing about palm trees is the coconut fruit they
produce. The liquid inside the fruit provides a drink known as coconut milk. The interior,
called coconut meat, is important in various cookies, candy bars and coconut pie.
