Position Paper — Indonesia

Committee: United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)

Country: Republic of Indonesia
Agenda: Ensuring Peace and Security in Conflict Zones with Special
Emphasis on the Ongoing Crisis in Gaza and Sudan

I. Introduction to the Issue

The crises in Gaza and Sudan represent two of the most urgent humanitarian
and geopolitical challenges today.
The recent escalation of violence in Gaza has resulted in enormous civilian
casualties and destruction, drawing global condemnation and bringing the need
of the idea of mutual understanding between groups with historical relations.
Meanwhile, Sudan is facing a devastating internal conflict between rival
military factions, displacement of millions and destabilizing the region are the
main issues. These conflicts threaten international peace and security and
demand a coordinated and sustained international response.

II. Indonesia’s Stand on the Issue

Indonesia has long maintained a principled foreign policy based on non-

alignment, peaceful conflict resolution, and respect for sovereignty and
international law. We , as always, respect each nation’s sovereignty and demand
of intervention of international bodies like UN, EU, ASEAN etc , to stop the
cruel acts with the increase in the number of casualties. We sincerely think that
all the issues can be sorted by DELIBERATION AND DISCUSSION when
encountered face to face.

Gaza:
Indonesia remains deeply committed to the Palestinian cause and consistently
supports a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as
the capital of Palestine. It has condemned acts of aggression against civilians
and has called for an immediate ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, and
international accountability for human rights violations.

Sudan:
Indonesia is concerned about the deteriorating security and humanitarian
situation in Sudan. As a supporter of African-led peace efforts, Indonesia calls
for dialogue, a return to democratic transition, and protection of civilians.
Indonesia respects Sudan’s sovereignty but emphasizes the importance of
multilateral engagement to stabilize the region. We mark our aid to Sudan an
urge for ceasefire.

III. Past Actions by Indonesia

For Palestine: Provision of humanitarian aid, supported UNRWA, and

consistently voted in favour of pro-Palestine resolutions in the UN.

For Sudan: Supports the African Union’s peace efforts and has promoted
peace through its diplomatic missions and participation in multilateral
platforms. Also provided medical aid.

IV. Proposed Solutions

Indonesia recommends the following:

 Immediate and Sustained Ceasefire Agreements in both regions,
monitored by international observers under UN mandates.
 Establishment of Humanitarian Corridors to ensure safe delivery of aid in
both Gaza and Sudan.
 Increased Funding to UN Agencies like UNRWA, WHO, and WFP to aid
displaced populations.
 Reaffirming Commitment to International Law, especially the Geneva
Conventions, to protect civilians and medical personnel.
 Diplomatic Dialogue under UN auspices involving all stakeholders, with
regional organizations (like the Arab League and African Union) playing
active roles.
 Support for Long-Term Peacebuilding through inclusive governance,
economic recovery, and civil society empowerment in both regions.

V. Conclusion

Indonesia believes that achieving peace in Gaza and Sudan requires more than
temporary ceasefires; it requires justice, diplomacy, deliberation and
development. The international community must act with unity, urgency, and
humanity. As a country with a strong commitment to peacekeeping, Indonesia is
ready to contribute constructively to all diplomatic and humanitarian efforts.
