"I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my
fears."
Psalm 34:4
4Nag-ampo ako sa Ginoo,
ug gitubag niya ako
ug giwagtang niya ang tanan kong kahadlok.
Salmo 34:4
The term "sought" in the Bible often refers to the act of searching, seeking,
or pursuing something or someone with intent and purpose. This concept is
prevalent throughout Scripture, illustrating both human endeavors to seek
God and His will, as well as God's pursuit of humanity.
Is it someone’s responsibility to seek God for you?
Psalm 34:8 "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who
takes refuge in him.
To taste involves testing or sampling; to see involves understanding or
perceiving. The phrase taste and see, then, means “try and experience.”
David urges God’s people to discover the goodness of the Lord by personal
trial and experience it for themselves. He doesn’t want readers to merely
take his word for it that the Lord is good; he wants them to actively to
experience and know for themselves the fact that God is good.
Humans associate taste with pleasure and satisfaction. Bible commentator
Matthew Henry elaborates on this idea: “Let God’s goodness be rolled
under the tongue as a sweet morsel.” When David says, “Taste and see
that the Lord is good,” it does not mean “to see is to believe” BUT he is
calling us to figuratively take a bite—to try for ourselves by our own
experience—and find out exactly how satisfyingly good God is. The
apostle Peter applies the same language in 1 Peter 2:3 when he says,
“You have tasted that the Lord is good.”
To taste and see that the Lord is good, we must trust God and seek Him as
our sole source of protection and provision. The only way to genuinely taste
and see that the Lord is good is to put the matter to the test, to try and
experience His goodness for ourselves.
The Bible itself declares that God's word is sufficient for all our
needs, providing wisdom, instruction, and direction for every aspect
of life.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work.
John 17:17
"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth
17 Your word is the truth. So let this truth make them completely yours.
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) reads: "For the word of God is alive and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul
and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the
heart.
God answered us not because we did something to get an answer, but
because in seeking God's truth, He already assured us that He will
hear and answer us.
I John 5:14-15, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if
we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he
hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
Psalm 107:28-30, “Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he
delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still, and the
waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were
quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven.”
MATEO 8:23-27
Gipahunong ni Jesus ang Unos
(Mar. 4:35-41; Luc. 8:22-25)
26Si Jesus mitubag, “Nganong nangahadlok man mo kaayo? Pagkagamay
MATTHEW 8:27
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the
winds and the waves obey him!”
Goodness is part of God’s nature, and He cannot contradict His
nature. Holiness and righteousness are part of God’s nature; He
cannot do anything that is unholy or unrighteous. God is the standard
of all that is good.
To say that God is good means that God always acts in accordance to
what is right, true, and good
Numbers 23:19
Bisan unsay iyang isaad buhaton gayod niya.
Mosulti siya ug nahimo kini.
Isaiah 55:8-9
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my
ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
The fact that God is good means that He has no evil in Him, His
intentions and motivations are always good, He always does what is
right, and the outcome of His plan is always good (see Genesis
50:20).
God did not create evil (Habakkuk 1:13)
ug mahitabo gayod kini.
Busa bisag morag dugay kining matuman,
God’s goodness is seen in His plan to redeem us from sin. The gospel
is “good news.” In His goodness, God sent His Son to become the
perfect and blameless sacrifice so we could be forgiven of our sins.
God does not want “anyone to perish, but everyone to come to
repentance” (2 Peter 3:9), and it is “the goodness of God [that]
leadeth thee to repentance” (Romans 2:4, KJV).
There is only One who is fully and truly good—God. This good God
invites us to seek him and to “taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him” (Psalm 34:8).
