DECLARATION BY STUDENT

We hereby declare that we have completed our social internship and this report entitled “REPORT
ON VILLAGE STUDY SEGMENT” is an original work done by us, under the guidance and supervision of
Dr. Arup Bhattacharjee (HOD, Dept. of Civil), submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for
the award of the BTech degree in civil engineering of Jorhat Engineering College. We also confirm
that the report is only prepared for our academic purpose and we have not submitted the same
work for any other purpose.
ABSTRACT

Having been part of a social internship program on village study, this served deep insights
and knowledge about rural life and community interactions. The internship, involved
immersive engagement with a village community, aiming to bridge academic learning with
real-world application. Throughout the program, we conducted activities such as data
collection, participatory rural appraisal, and the implementation of small-scale development
projects. These tasks not only enhanced our academic knowledge but also improved our
cultural sensitivity and practical problem-solving skills. The internship allowed us to witness
firsthand the challenges and opportunities within rural settings, fostering a deeper
appreciation for sustainable development and local governance. Overall, the experience
proved to be transformative, demonstrating the significant value of integrating social
internships into higher education curricula to promote holistic learning and meaningful
community impact.
INTRODUCTION
This report outlines the findings from a detailed village survey conducted as part of a social
internship program. This internship aimed to connect academic learning with real-world experience
by immersing students in the daily lives and challenges of rural communities. Gaining a deep
understanding of village life is essential for developing effective policies and interventions to support
rural populations and ensure balanced national development.

Rural areas constitute a significant portion of the population in many countries and play a vital role
in the national economy, particularly through agriculture and related activities. Despite their
importance, villages often face numerous challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, limited
access to education and healthcare, and social issues such as gender inequality and unemployment.
To address these issues, it is essential to gain a thorough understanding of the current conditions
and dynamics within these communities

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of this village survey was to evaluate several aspects of village life,
including:

1. Living Conditions: To assess housing quality, access to basic amenities like water
and electricity, and overall living standards.

2. Economic Activities: To identify main income sources, employment patterns, and the
role of agriculture and other economic activities.

3. Education: To examine the availability and quality of educational facilities, literacy

rates, and factors influencing school attendance and dropout rates.

4. Healthcare: To evaluate the accessibility and quality of healthcare services, common

health issues, and available medical facilities.

5. Social Issues: To explore social dynamics, including gender roles, community

participation, and awareness of government programs and initiatives.

6. Infrastructure: To evaluate infrastructure such as roads, transportation,

communication networks, and public utilities.
