King Lear (William Shakespeare)

History:

This is another of the tragedies created by the playwright William Shakespeare. The play takes place in the Great
Medieval Brittany, when kings had serfs and the people had to pay tributes and obedience to the king.
the territory was divided into counties and duchies, governed by counts and dukes respectively, who
the legitimate children inherited them. Moreover, being a king was attributed to a supernatural, divine action, performed by
will of God.

It was a time of continuous wars and battles to gain territories or even more power than was already held.

King Lear, deceived by his two flattering elder daughters, Goneril and Regan, divides his kingdom between them.
while disinheriting Cordelia - a symbol of filial love - the little one, who truly loves him and does not want

The sweet Cordelia, marrying the king of France, must leave her parental home. For her part, Regan has

for their husbands, they soon tire of the old King Lear, they begin to find him ill-tempered, of poor judgment
firm, impertinent and crazy; they despise him, to the great sorrow of King Lear, who thought he had a refuge in the
home of their daughters.

And there comes a day when he is thrown out of the palace, in the middle of a fierce storm, so that the unfortunate must ...
to remain in an open field; although he was not alone, there with him was the disguised Count of Kent, with
Edgardo also disguised, the latter as a beggar, and with his old jester.

Parallel to this, Lear's daughters move to the palace of the Earl of Gloucester. They, along with the Duke of
Cornwall and alerted by Edmund, pluck out the eyes of Duke Gloucester for being loyal to King Lear. When the Duke
from Cornwall scratches out the eyes of the Earl of Gloucester, a servant of his kills the Duke of Cornwall, and thus
Regan becomes a widow.

his faithful daughter, whose pure love he realized too late.

The other two daughters of Lear also die; they commit suicide after Edmund loses to Edgar. Lear
he faints, and the Duke of Albania, Edgardo, and the Count of Kent emerge victorious.
William Shakespeare

He was born on April 26, 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom. He was the playwright, poet, novelist most
important of his century. He wrote works such as: “Romeo and Juliet”, “Hamlet”, “Macbeth”, “Othello”, “King Lear”
among others. There is great doubt about this writer regarding whether it was he himself who
he wrote his novels, plays, poems, etc. There has also been doubt about his very existence, since, he
knows very little about its records.

One of his sons, Hamnet, passed away at the age of 11; this is the inspiration for several works by this playwright.

As far as is known, the relationship between Shakespeare and his book 'King Lear' is where he expresses all his feelings.
of anguish, sadness, misfortune, love, and hatred. Here the playwright also expresses filial gratitude, disappointment,
betrayal, madness, and old age. In this tragedy, the pain that Shakespeare felt is reflected. This work was
written in one of its best periods, that is, in one of the moments of greatest creativity and mental agility
by William.

William Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616.
