LEARNING OBJECTIVES
M At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to spell singular and plural nouns correctly.
C At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to write words in cursive writing correctly.
1. Explain the words ‘singular’ and ‘plural’ nouns in simple terms.
I. PRE-LESSON 2. Point to a few objects in the class (e.g., one clock , two chairs) and have pupils
give thumbs up if it is plural noun.
1. Activity 1:
Tell pupils you have one sister (for example). Ask pupils some questions to
elicit plural nouns (e.g. How many sisters do you have?) Ask pupils if it
should be, for example, 3 sisters or 3 sister.
Grammar Box: Read the words in the box and have pupils repeat. Explain
to pupils how to form regular plural nouns by adding -s, -es or -ves
followed by irregular nouns.
Give them a few examples. (refer to TB pg 104-105)
2. Activity 2:
II. LESSON Play the CD to review the story on Student’s Book, p.66. (track 6)
DEVELOPMENT Distribute worksheet. Pupils read the story and complete the sentences.
Pupils check their answers with a partner before checking as a whole class.
Encourage use of cursive writing and remind pupils to take care with
spelling, using the text as a model.
3. Activity 3:
Give pupils 10 blank cards per pair.
They write the singular and plural of five irregular nouns, one word on each
card. Focus on handwriting as well as spelling in this activity.
Pelmanism: Pupils play a game with their own cards (they place the cards
face down, then turn over two cards to try to find a pair).
