Policy Title: Personal Development
Policy Objective: To provide guidelines for supporting the actualisation of employee’s individual
development plans which are beneficial to both the employees and the
organisation.
Policy Statements
1. Employees have a huge role to play in improving their capabilities. The bank will however put
in place support systems and structures to ensure that employees developmental needs can
be actualized.
2. Each officer is required to have a personal development plan (PDP) prepared in line with
current capability requirement and competencies required progression through his chosen
career map.
3. The line manager/heads of department and the career management team will support the
employees to achieve the desired development.
4. As part of these support structures, employees may have access to an educational loan up to
twice his/her annual basic salary at the prevailing employees interest rate, payable a two-year
period. Like all other loans, this must also fall within the 1/3 monthly take-home requirement.
5. All educational loans shall be for approved part-time post-graduate courses and shall be
approved by employee’s Head of Department/Line Manager in conjunction with Human
Capital Management & Development as being relevant to improving the employee’s role.
6. Educational loans shall also cover short online courses with relevant and accredited overseas
institutions. This shall be subject to approval by the Head of Department/Line Manager in
conjunction with Human Capital Management & Development.
7. The educational loan shall be paid directly to the school or institution being attended.
8. Professional (Nigerian) certificates relevant to job roles for specific departments (as approved)
shall be sponsored by the Bank. The Bank’s involvement shall cover reimbursement of tuition
and examination fees on presentation of valid receipts upon successful completion.
9. Sponsorship will be limited to two associations for employees from Executive Trainee to
General Manager grades. Special requests outside this must be adequately justified by the
Head of Department/Group Head for the line Director or GMD’s approval.
10. Processing of professional qualifications and certification would be executed under the
following terms and conditions:
a. Any of the Professional Certifications shall be open to only eligible full-time employees
of the Bank.
b. Staff to be considered for reimbursement of any professional certifications must
provide strong business justification on the relevance of the certification to their
current job role or career aspirations within the Bank.
c. The full cost of the certification exams shall be reimbursed by the Bank only upon
successful completion of the program and on presentation of valid receipts.
d. Each eligible staff shall be entitled to no more than two (2) certification
reimbursements per year.
e. All submissions for professional certification reimbursements shall be duly signed off
by the HOD. Certifications with costs above $1,000 shall be signed-off by the Group
Executive.
f. Reimbursements for Professional Certifications costs aggregating to $1,000 above
shall have a 2-year training/performance bond incorporated.
g. Where an employee wishes to leave the employment of the Bank before the
expiration of the 2-year performance bond, such employee would be liable to full
refund of the program at the point of exit
