WHAT IS
INFORMATION
LITERACY?
-Information literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, and
use information effectively and ethically. It encompasses
a range of skills, including recognizing when information
is needed, locating relevant sources, assessing the
credibility of those sources, and using the information to
make informed decisions or solve problems. In essence,
it's about being a savvy consumer and creator of
information in all its forms.

LITERACY
IMPORTANCE OF
INFORMATION
LITERACY
In 1974, Paul Zurkowski, the former president of the U.S.
Information Industry Association, proposed the idea that
people need information literacy skills to prepare for an
emerging information society. Now that we are actually in
the Information Age, learning about finding, evaluating,
and using information has become the most essential
survival skill that we need, the same way our ancestors
had to learn how to hunt, cultivate crops, or wield
weapons in order to survive.
In today's society, independent and lifelong
learning is as important as learning in school. This
aspect of information literacy is incorporated in the
first two categories outlined in 1998 by the
American Association for School Librarians (AASL)
and the Association for Educational Communications
and Technology (AECT) in the publication,
Information power.

ETHICAL
USE OF
INFORMATION
It is believed that all people have the right to access to
information and knowledge available all over the internet
and other open resources. In this manner, all information
are also provided originally by individuals or
organizations that placed effort to come up with a
resource worth using to gain knowledge and information
they would also want others to know. Some ethical ways
to use information are as follows:
1. CITE RESOURCES
-In the academe, all information or literature
gathered to formulate a solution needs to be
cited. Citation is a method that recognizes the
work of individuals or group who come up with an
idea that can contribute and support
your work.
2.PARAPHRASE CONTENT AND CITE
-There is nothing wrong with using other's
contribution or work, as long as contents
are paraphrased and cited. Paraphrasing is
a method of rewording a text or paragraph
while keeping the same thought or message.
In this method, copying of exact content
or information is avoided. This can also
help strengthen some of your claims or
information you put up to address a
thought or context.
3. AVOID PLAGIARISM
-Plagiarism is an act of stealing ideas and
information without citing the reference or
resource where the information is gathered. It is
a major offense in the academe for it is an act
of intellectual theft or act of stealing
information from another's work or contribution.
