PROJECT PROPOSAL

“ Concrete Garden Fence to Enhance the School Environment and Learning”

Proponents:
Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education
Major in Home Economics -
National Service Training 1A

Instructor:
Virginia P. Elis-Beligen

February 19,2024
Introduction
a. Rationale
Benguet State University is nestled in the heart of La Trinidad, Benguet, the strawberry
capital of the Philippines. According to earlier reports, the Farm School was “planned to develop
into a large normal school where the best Igorot pupils will be trained to be teachers among their
own people with emphasis on agriculture.” Farm School expanded its services and heightened its
prominence in La Trinidad.
School gardens are valuable educational tools that can provide students with hands-on
learning experiences, environmental awareness, and healthy food choices. However, school
gardens also face many challenges, such as pests, vandalism, lack of space, and maintenance
costs. One way to address these challenges is to build a concrete garden fence that can protect,
beautify, and enrich the school garden. School gardens are a wonderful way to use the
schoolyard as a classroom, reconnect students with the natural world and the true source of their
food, and teach them valuable gardening and agriculture concepts and skills that integrate with
several subjects, such as math, science, art, health and physical education, and social studies, as
well as several educational goals, including personal and social responsibility.
To address this environmental challenges and concerns, as a first-year students at Benguet
State University (BSU) who enrolled in the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education
Major in Home Economics, we plan to undertake a garden fencing focusing on the area that
BTLED NSTP students’ needed in learning that will also benefit other colleges/students of BSU.
A concrete garden fence is a durable, low-cost, and versatile structure that can serve multiple
functions in the school garden.
