Tips
There is a chance that you will lose the beginning of the row; to avoid this, use a marker. It can
be a safety pin, clip or thread of contrasting color.
Try to crochet tightly, avoid small holes through which stuffing material can be seen.

3. Head
With white yarn
Chain 6. On the loop that you now have on the hook add a marker/safety pin (see Image 1).
Chain one more (You should have a total of 7 chained stitches)

Image 1 Image 2

You will now start working in rounds (or spirals, whichever you call them)

4
Hollow Knight
For the first row, start your next stitch in the
second chain from your hook (See Image 3, you
must skip the first stitch from the hook, in red,
and you start in the next one, the blue one in my
image. You will only crochet in the right-side
loops (BLO)).

Image 3
1 row 5Sc, DINC (you have now finished your right-side loops available; you need to go
in round to the next available loops on the left, see Image 4, in purple), 5Sc,
(your next stitch should be the one with the marker/safety pin. You can now
remove the marker), DINC (16)

Image 4

Count your stitches. Make sure you have exactly 16 stitches on this row before
continuing.
To make the counting of the rows easier, you can use a marker/safety pin to
mark the last stitch crocheted in a row.

4. Horns
With white yarn

Each horn starts with two pieces (first and second pieces below)

First piece
1 row 6Sc in magic circle (6)
2 row INC, 5Sc (7)
3 row INC, 6Sc (8) Use a pen to mark the last 3
stitches in this row (just color the last 3 stitches in the row
with a pen as you see in Image 13. Do not worry about the
color, it will be covered by the next crocheted row.
Cut the yarn leaving a long tail for sewing

Image 13
Second piece
1 row 6Sc in magic circle (6)
2 row INC, 5Sc (7)
3 row INC, 6Sc (8)
4 row INC, 7Sc (9)
5 row 3Sc (use a pen to mark these first 3 stitches as you did for the other piece), 6Sc (9)
Do not cut the yarn, you will continue crocheting this piece

The next step is to sew the two pieces together. Align the colored 3 stitches on each piece (see
Image 14), secure them using a sewing pin, and sew them together using the long tail left from
the first smaller piece. Cut the yarn, hiding the tail inside one of the pieces.

9
Hollow Knight

Image 14

Image 15

At this point you finished sewing the two pieces together. You need to continue crocheting. Your
yarn remained on the second piece, at the end of row 5.
Look at Image 16. The red line is where your yarn currently is. You will now crochet in rounds in
the direction of the orange arrow, from the large piece to the smaller piece, and then finish on
the larger piece, right where you started.

6 row Move from the larger piece to the

smaller one, INC (blue in my image), 4Sc (green in
my image), Move to the larger piece and continue
crocheting 6Sc (purple in my image) (12)

Image 17 Image 18

7 row INC, 11Sc (13)

8 row INC, 12Sc (14)
9 - 22 rows Sc in each Sc around (14)
Initially I designed this pattern with the horns being 28
rows long, but the feedback I received was that they are
a little too long, so I reduced them to 23 rows in total. If
you want you can continue with the Sc around for 5 more
Image 19 rows (until you finish row 27), and then do the final row
below, but it is up to you! I like better the version with
the shorter horns, so 23 rows in total, it resembles more the character in the video game.
23 row 8Sc, Chain one, turn, start crocheting in the second stitch from your hook, 10Sc
Cut the yarn leaving a long tail for sewing. The first
horn is now complete.

Crochet another horn following the same

instructions above.

10 row 2Sc (mark these 2 stitches with a
marker/safety pin), 16Sc (18)
Do not cut the yarn, you will continue crocheting
the body from this point forward. Image 22

12
Hollow Knight
6. Body
Now you need to join the two legs together. To do this, take the two legs. Align the two stitches
on row 11 from the first leg with the two stitches you marked with a marker/safety pin on row
10 on the second leg.

Image 23 Image 24
Use the tail you left for sewing on the first leg to sew together the 4 stitches you aligned above
on each of the legs (2 stitches on the first leg with the other 2 stitches on the second leg). I will
refer to this sewn piece as “middle piece” moving forward.
Continue crocheting where you left off on row 10 of the second leg. You will start crocheting in
rounds

Look at Image 25. The green line is where your yarn is. The red circle is the “middle piece”. You
will start crocheting in rounds, in the direction of the orange arrow. You will move from the
second leg to the middle piece, then move to the first leg, then again on the middle piece, then
continue on the first leg until you get back where you started.

Image 26
Take a few rice grains. Fill the base of the legs with rice grains, this will help with stability and
balance (see Image 27). Don’t feel more than 5 rows from the base of the leg (see Image 28, do
not fill over the green lines). Then take some stuffing material, start stuffing the legs, making sure

14
Hollow Knight
you don’t overstuff, you want the base of the legs to remain flat so that the knight will be able to
stand on its own.

Cut the yarn, leave a long tail for sewing.
Crochet two arms.
Image 33
Attach the arms to the body by sewing them like in Image 34.

8. Cloak
With dark grey yarn

Before starting to crochet the cloak, I suggest watching this tutorial on how to crochet stitches that look
like knitting with half double crochet in rows (camel stitch). The tutorial belongs to HappyBerry Crochet
and you can find in on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfRFiZBLeLk

You will use the same technique for the Hollow Knight cloak. In this way you will create that 3D effect of
a knitted stitch.

You can now observe that the half double crochet stitch makes two sets of V shaped stitches,
one with the V pointing to the left, and one with the V pointing to the right (see Image 38 & 39).
Whenever necessary, I will specify which V to use at the beginning of each row.

Image 64

10. Assembly
Take one of the horns and one piece of wire. Insert the wire into the horn, with the wire reaching
the tip of the horn (the larger tip, see red circle in Image 65). Stuff the horn. Cut the excess wire.

Image 67

Image 65 Image 66

Image 68

31
Hollow Knight

Image 69

Image 70

Prepare the second horn following the same instructions.

You will now sew the horns to the head. But first you need to choose the side that will be the
face of the knight. Look at Image 71. The red circle is where your yarn is. I usually choose the face
that is on the opposite side of where the yarn is, look at the green arrows. You can choose
whichever side of the head to be the face, but I always like the one marked in green in Image 71.

Image 71

32
Hollow Knight
After you have chosen a face you need to mark the spots where the horns will be placed.
Look at Image 72. This is a photo of the top of the head. I used sewing pins to mark the spots
where the horns will be placed. I usually count 9 rows from the middle to each of the sides and
this is where I place the marks (see Image 73)

Image 72

Image 73

On the lateral of the head, the horns must be placed slightly towards the face, not in the center.
(see Image 74, the center is the green line, but you must place the horn a little towards the face,
see the red sewing pin).

33
Hollow Knight

Image 74

Image 75

You can now sew the horns to the head in the marked spots. The center of each horn must be
placed right on the spots you marked with sewing pins. Remove the pins once you secure the
horns in place.

After you finished sewing the horns to the head, you need to bend the horns to give them that C
shape. Bend one horn at a time.

Image 81

37
Hollow Knight

Image 82

Image 83

38
Hollow Knight
Now you need to sew the cloak over the body.
Lay on the cloak on a flat surface and place the body on top. Find the center of the cloak and
position the body slightly to the left of the center. Also, leave around half a centimeter from the
body to the top of the cloak (see Image 84).

Image 84

Roll the right side of the cloak (the one on your left, see Image 85) over the body. Then roll the
left side over the right side (see Image 86).

Image 85

Secure the cloak on top of the body with sewing pins.

Now you can sew the head on top of the body. The bottom of the head needs to be sewn to the
part of the body that sticks out of the cloak (see Image 97, red circle)

The next step is to sew the nail to the backside of the knight. You will sew the nail to the cloak.
Place the nail in a tilted position, with the handle up, and secure it with a sewing pin. Then start
sewing it to the cloak.

Image 104 Image 105

Image 106 Image 107

48

When you are done sewing, use a black pen to draw a few diagonal lines on the nail.

Image 108 Image 109

The final step is to glue the eyes on the face.

Take a small piece of black felt. Cut it in half.
Place the two halves one on top of the other, so
you can equally cut both eyes at the same time.
Cut two ovals. Glue the eyes to the face.

I recommend having two balls of white yarn as at some point you will alternate between the two
horns, switching from one to another. Use one of them now, and keep the other for when you’ll
start crocheting the horns)

3.2 First Horn

Continue crocheting where you left off on row 14 above. Given that we will have two separate
horns, we will separately count the rows for each horn, starting at 1.
1 row 11Sc, Chain 10 (Image 4 - this will be the middle piece that will separate the two
horns), Unite the last chained stitched with the stitch marked with a black yarn by doing 1Sc (it’s
the black thread marker in my case, or whichever color you chose to mark – Image 5), 11Sc (33)

2 row 11Sc, 10Sc on the chained middle stitches (for these 10 stitches crochet only using
the right loops – red in the Image 6. The left loops, that you can see in Image 7, in green, will be
used for the second horn), 12Sc (33)

Do not cut the yarn, you will continue crocheting this horn later.
Switch to the other horn

3.3 Second Horn

This is where the second ball of yarn comes handy.

You will start crocheting this horn by connecting white yarn (from the new ball of white yarn) in
the stitch you have marked on the 14th row of the head (marked with red thread in my case,
Image 2 & Image 10). Make a loop using white yarn in this marked stitch. Start crocheting
towards the left (Image 11).

1 row 12Sc, 10Sc in the remaining loops from the chained middle part (the one
separating the horns, in the loops remaining from where you crocheted on the first horn, see
Image 7, the remaining green loops are the ones you will use now. Make sure you crochet these
middle stitches really tight otherwise you will end up with holes between the horns), 11Sc (the
11th Sc will be in the marked stitch where you started this row with a loop) (33)
2 row INVDEC, 9Sc, INVDEC, 8Sc, INVDEC, 8Sc, INVDEC (29)

Hornet

20 row Look at the diagram in Image 36 (legs seen from the top). You will need to connect
the two legs. Each little circle is a stitch that you’ll crochet. The green represents the current leg
that you are crocheting (second leg). The red line represents where your yarn is. To unite this to
the first leg in blue, you must first chain one (circle number 1 in red on the diagram). Then
connect to the first leg with one single crochet (circle number 2 in blue on the diagram). Crochet
another 9Sc on this first leg (circles 3 to 11 in blue on the diagram). Then chain one (circle number
12 in red on the diagram). Then connect to the second leg with one single crochet (circle number
13 in green on the diagram). Crochet another 9Sc on this second leg (circles 14 to 22 in green on
the diagram). (22)

Image 36

Image 37

19
Hornet

If you look between the legs (Image 38, red circle), you will see there’s a space that we will need
to sew for the filling not to stick out. Use the long tail remaining on the first leg to sew together
the space between stitches (should be stitches 11-13 & 2-22 on the diagram). Cut the remaining
yarn and hide it inside one of the legs. Continue crocheting the body.

22 row [4Sc, INVDEC] x 3, 4Sc (19)
23 row [3Sc, INVDEC] x 3, 4Sc (16)
At this point you need to add a few rice grains to fill the
interior of the legs. Don’t add too many, only to fill about 0.5
– 1 cm at the bottom of the two legs.

Take some electrical wire (the one wrapped in plastic), fold it in half, like in Image 40 to make a
carcass for the legs and body. The curled, folded part will be the body, the two long ends will be
the legs. Insert the wire carcass into the crocheted legs and body. It should stick out only about
1 cm from the body. This part that is sticking out will be covered by the next crocheted rows
below.

7.1 Needle
With silver yarn
1 row 4Sc in magic circle (4)
2 row INC, 3Sc (5)
3 row INC, 4Sc (6)
4 row INC, 5Sc (7)
5 – 25 rows Sc in each Sc around (7)
26 row Crochet this row in BLO -> INVDEC, 5Sc (6)
27 row INVDEC, 4Sc (5)
28 – 46 rows Sc in each Sc around (5)
Cut the yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.
Take some electrical wire (the one wrapped in plastic). It
is very important to choose a stronger wire for the
needle. Hornet will lean on the needle to stand on its
own, therefore you should use a stronger wire. I like to
use the electrical one, wrapped in plastic, it is perfect for
this. Insert the wire into Hornet’s Needle, cutting out the
excess (the wire should be of the same length as the
Needle, no wire should stick out). Image 47

With silver yarn
1 row 4Sc in magic ring (4)
2 – 22 rows Sc in each Sc around (4)
Cut the yarn and leave a long tail for sewing.
Form a circle by uniting the two ends of this piece. Sew
the two ends together making sure they perfectly align
to form a circle. Cut the yarn hiding the tail inside the
crocheted piece.

7.3 Needle Thread

With silver yarn
Take some wire (a soft wire this time, see Image 54), the length should be around 70 cm.

Image 54

You will wrap this wire in silver yarn. Start at one of the ends of the wire. Wrap a little yarn over,
then roll the end of the wire to secure the yarn. Continue wrapping the yarn until you get to the
other end. Roll the end of the wire to secure the yarn. Cut the end of the yarn.

8. Assembly
Pull the dress on top of the body. The pointy part of the body should stick out through the collar
of the dress (make sure it doesn’t stick out too much, only 2 - 3 rows of crochet should stick out).
Pull down the collar to make the sewing part easier.
Using fuchsia yarn, sew the dress to the body part that’s sticking out the collar (Image 59).

Using white yarn, sew the head to the body part,

making sure it stays tight. Sew the head at a

To help with balance and for Hornet to be able to stand on its own, you also need to sew her
Needle to the dress. Place Hornet on a table/flat surface. Position the needle parallel to the
horns. Find the spot where the needle is sticking out from the dress on the back (example in
Image 68). This is where you need to sew her Needle to the dress.

Image 70
Image 69

Image 70 shows you where her Needle is now connected to both her hand and her dress. This
will help with her balance. When you finished sewing, place Hornet on a table. She should be
able to stand on its own, using the Needle as a support.

If you are having difficulty making her stand, just move her Needle in different positions until you
figure out her balance. Also spread the legs a little, it will also help with the balance. If you chose
a strong wire like I did, it should stay on its own without any issues.
