Study the Sources and answer the questions that follow.

Source A: A British cartoon published in 1938.

Hints for Question (1)

Pay attention to the time the cartoon was published.
What was the clothing of the man marked X differ
from the rest in the cartoon?
What was the man marked X doing?
The clothing of the man marked X matched his
action, what did it symbolize?
Which countries did the two men who were closest
to the man marked X represent?

Source B: An excerpt from a radio broadcast about the Munich Agreement in 1938.

It took the Big Four just 5 hours and 25 minutes here in Munich today to dispel the clouds of war and
come to an agreement over the partition of Czechoslovakia. There is to be no European war… the
price of that peace is… the ceding by Czechoslovakia of the Sudeten territory to Herr Hitler's
Germany. The German Fuhrer gets what he wanted… His waiting 10 short days has saved Europe
from a world war. … most of the peoples of Europe are happy that they won't have to go marching
off to war… Probably only the Czechs… are not too happy.
