Sport Mentorship for Students

"All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy", this famous proverb stands testimony to the fact that SPORTS play an important role in student's life. It is well known fact that in order to have a healthy mind one needs to have a healthy body. Sports play a vital role in nourishing soul and body of one. A sport is commonly defined as an organized, competitive, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. Sports enhances qualities like sportsmanship, leadership etc. Sportsmanship is an attitude that strives for fair play, courtesy toward teammates and opponents,

ethical behavior and integrity, and grace in victory or defeat. OBJECTIVE: To maintain the physical and mental fitness of the students as well as to inculcate necessary sports values along with their academics.

TARGETS:
1.) Maximum participation of the hostellers in sports activities. 2.) Expose the Book-Worms to sports and enhance their qualities. 3.) To maintain the level of fitness necessary for a healthy ambience. 4.) To conduct as many sports activities. PLAN: For effectively carry out sports activities in hostel a schedule was formulated to gain maximum participation of students as well as they could be synchronized with their academics. Under it sports activities were distributed into two shifts. 1.) Morning shift included MORNING WALK and Exercise Routine(including Yoga and Aerobics). 2.) Evening shift included various indoor and outdoor games as follows: Basketball Volleyball Cricket Badminton Table Tennis Chess Carom Equipment related to all indoor and outdoor games are provided to the students.

ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED UP TILL NOW:

1.) Morning walk was conducted on daily basis for the Ist year students with each student to necessarily participate in it once a week. Apart from it students were free to come daily. 2.) Exercises were conducted by our sports officer. 3.) Opening and Closing Ceremony of COMMONWEALTH GAMES was telecasted live in the ARBUDA CONVENTION CENTRE for students to enjoy the most emphatic feat of INDIA on the sports background other than cricket!. 4.) YOGA and AEROBICS are conducted for the students weekly on Sunday by a specialist instructor in that field. 5.) Cricket World Cup 2011, Almost every match was telecasted for the hostellers.

SWOT ANALYSIS:
STRENGTH: Active participation of students. Rise of new talents in sports like basketball and volleyball. Excellent feedback. Healthy and fit environment. WEAKNESS: Facilities not adequate to amass large number of students.

OPPORTUNITY: It provided a platform for new students to enjoy all those sports that they have never played earlier. For other students to sharpen their skills further and participate in INTER-COLLEGE COMPEITION. To enhance physical and mental fitness.

THREATS:

Not enough adequate facilities. University exams and mid-term exams broke the continuity of our plan.

NEW INITIATIVE:
1.) Yoga and Aerobics classes every Sunday by a specialized instructor. 2.) Inclusion of football in our schedule as well as track and field events.

ACHIEVEMENTS:
1.) New students showing remarkable skills in various games. 2.) Increased count of students indulging in sports as well as gymnasium. 3.) Maximum number of players in college team from hostel which is a testimony to our efforts. 4.) Increased awareness among students related to maintaining a healthy body.
