The First President of Indonesia Ir. Soekarno: Kusno Sosrodihardjo

Sukarno was the first president of Indonesia. He was born in 1901 in East Java and studied civil engineering, graduating in 1925. He formulated the ideology of Pancasila and established the Nationalist Party of Indonesia in 1927 to fight for Indonesian independence from Dutch colonial rule. Sukarno proclaimed Indonesia's independence on August 17, 1945 and became the first president. However, political turmoil in 1965 led to Sukarno's declining health and replacement by Suharto as president. Sukarno passed away in 1970.

Soekarno

The first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Sukarno, who used to be called Bung Karno, was born in Blitar, East Java, June 6, 1901. His father named Raden Soekemi Sosrodihardjo and his mother is Ida Ayu Nyoman Rai. At first, he was named as Kusno Sosrodihardjo. However, because he was often sick when he was five years old then the name was changed to Soekarno. Soekarnos first school was in Tulung Agung, but then he moved to Mojokerto with his parents. Then in June 1911 Sukarno moved to Europeesche Lagere School (ELS). In 1915, Sukarno had

completed his education in the ELS and successfully went to Hoogere Burger School (HBS) in Surabaya, East Java. He was accepted at HBS because of the help of his fathers friend who called HOS Tjokroaminoto. After graduated from H.B.S. in 1920, Sukarno went to the Hoge Technische School (now ITB) in Bandung. His major was civil engineering and then he graduated in 1925. Then, he moved to Jakarta. While in Jakarta, Soekarno lived at the residence of Haji Sanusi who is a member of the Sarekat Islam and Tjokroaminotos friend. Then, he formulated the Marhaenism doctrine and established PNI (Nationalist Party of lndonesia) on July 4, 1927. The Partys goal was to make Indonesia as an Independence Country. As a result, the Netherlands, put him in Sukamiskin jail on December 29, 1929. His effort to reach his goal was made the Dutch more upset. So that in July 1930, PNI was dissolved. After his release in 1931, Sukarno joined Partindo and became the leader. But he was rearrested by the Dutch and exiled to Ende, Flores, 1933. Four years later he moved to Bengkulu.

On June 1, 1945, Ir.Soekarno present his ideas about the ideology of Indonesia. This was called as Pancasila. After a long struggle, Bung Karno and Bung Hatta proclaimed Indonesia's independence on August 17, 1945. The next day, Ir.Soekarno was elected as the first President

of the Republic of Indonesia. But then there was G-30-S/PKI rebellion which made a great political crisis in Indonesia. This crisis made Soeharto replace Soekarnos position as the president of Indonesia.
Sukarno's health had begun to decline since August 1965. Previously, he was declared by the doctor that hes suffering from kidney problems and had undergone treatment in Vienna, Austria in 1961 and 1964.

His health continued to deteriorate, then on Sunday, June 21, 1970 he died in the hospital.
Although Sukarno had requested to be buried at the Istana Batu, but President Suharto chose Blitar City, East Java, as the burial place of Sukarno. So he was buried in Blitar, East Java, near the tomb of his

mother, Ida Ayu Nyoman Rai.
