Weeks featured clubber: Serena Hannon, who won the Womens All-Ireland Kick Fada title last weekend.

U-16s continue their winning form

A fine win over Ballyboden St Endas B in Ringsend Park on Saturday sees the U-16 footballers continue their strong league form they havent been beaten since March. The team started well with two quick points followed by a cleverly- worked goal. The first half ended with Clanns ahead by four points, 1-7 to 0-6. The referee allowed the game to flow and kept both lines under control in a very tight fought game.

Des Markey times his catch well

The visitors got off to a flying start in the second half with a well-taken goal followed by two points and soon our lead was cut to two points. With both sides slowing up Ballyboden brought on some fresh legs and, because Clanns had no substitutes due to a number of late withdrawals, the game started to tilt in favour of the visitors. With five minutes left and the match on a knife edge the Clanns belief came through in two crucial hard-worked points from Ross and Dean. This team has developed a strong character notwithstanding the loss of a few key players due to long-term injuries. Although there were periods when the team was not clicking on all cylinders, Des Markey and Daniel Bolton kept their heads to help pull the team over the line in the end and many nervous home fans with them. Yet again Alberts magic touch was seen to work! The team has now strengthened its hold on second position in the league with just one game remaining. The Pitch, set in Cavan, tells the story of Philly Halton 'a renowned Gaelic footballer in his own mind.' This poignant tale of an old man living in isolation on his own land with forces conspiring to relieve him of the very pitch on which he played his greatest games. The Maguires, his bitterest enemies, have hatched a devious plot to consign him to a nursing home for the rest of his days. A winning chorus!
The U-11 girls played Kilmacud Crokes away in Deerpark Stillorgan last weekend. Once again we had a full turnout, enabling both teams to field 15-a-side which meant that everyone got a good run out. While Kilmacud were a physically taller team, Clanns focused on getting to the ball first and spreading their passes wide. This paid dividends with the girls dominating the first half and the home team chasing shadows! We kept a clean sheet to half time.

@Clannagaelfont

The expected Kilmacud response came thick and fast in the second half but, with our captains for the day - Laura Ferry and Sarah OLaide reminding everyone to concentrate, we kept our noses firmly in front. Some goal line heroics from Sophie McWilliams and solid defence from her backs were critical and allowed our midfield and forwards to commit to the attack. Our girls scored nine great points from play and it would be unfair to single out any one player: suffice to say that they were spread nicely throughout the team with on occasion the ball passing through five or six sets of hands at speed on its way from one end of the pitch to the other. Gaining such a memorable victory the girls singing could probably be heard back on Sean Moore Road! Kilmacud Crokes 0-10 Clanna Gael Fontenoy 0-27

Clanns players take national honours

U-8 hurlers break even

The Clanns U-8 hurlers played their first blitz of the season against Westmanstown and Cuala, in which two unstreamed teams of nine played three games each. Clanns 1 started with a tough game against Westmanstown 2, during which the majority of the possession was in our own half. Tomas was so self assured in goal that even the opposition coaches were impressed with his three first-half saves. However, in the end it was a soft defensive goal that gave Westmanstown a 1-0 to 0-0 victory. Game two saw a change in tactics as Eoin went into goal and delivered 30-meter puck outs after every Cuala wide that determined the territorial advantage enjoyed during the game. A great run up the right wing by Matthew resulted in a beautiful pass for Tomas to slide into the opposition net for a one-goal win. Game three against Westmanstown 1 was ultimately decided by a few breakaway first-half goals, though the teams were otherwise evenly matched. Despite going those four goals down, resolute defending by Adam and Cillian helped Clanns to save face and record a second-half victory at least.

Serena Hannon national champion

Clanna Gael Fontenoy's Serena Hannon has won the Womenss AllIreland Kick Fada title. The competition against women from all over the country took place last weekend in the Bray Emmetts GAA Club in Co Wicklow. Serena defeated the 2011 winner and Meath goalkeeper, Irene Munnelly, in a sudden death situation when she succeeded in getting a 45- metre kick between the posts.

Kim Flood third in national competition

Clanns 2 were always in command of their game against Cuala 2, winning 3-0 to 0-0, with fine goals from Hugh, Pdraig and Francis. The teams defense was put to greater test in the second match against a very strong Westmanstown 1, but robust goalkeeping from Daire L and Francis, and strong defending from Mark, Daragh S and Aiden, kept the game scoreless at half-time. Westmanstown came back out the stronger team and quickly scored three goals, effectively sealing the game - the final score was 4-0 to 1-0. The final game against Cuala 1 was another victory, this time 5-0 to 2-0. Cathal and Jonathan worked hard up front, with Jonathan and Aiden adding their names to the list of scorers. Overall a good performance from all - and a particularly impressive one from Daragh S on his very first outing with a hurley and sliotar. A very enjoyable day was had by all with three games won and a similar number lost.

Also competing in the competition was fellow Clanns player, Kim Flood, who finished just behind the top two in third place.

U-12 girls look to Shield semi final

The U12 girls played their last game in the decider for the Division 2 Cup or Shield stream on Sunday at home to Templeogue Synge Street. The game saw the welcome return of Maria O'Dea after her recent collar-bone injury, and she played a strong role in goal. A stiff breeze made it difficult for both teams, and playing with the wind Clanns opened the scoring with a point. The visitors were by far the stronger team in the first half, however, and they opened a 2-3 lead by half time - despite a great goal from Alice Roden.

That ball is definitely over the line for a Clanns goal

The second half saw a more competitive Clanns team emerge and the game was more evenly matched for the last half hour. Still, despite a valiant effort, the visitors were too strong overall and ran out comfortable winners. Our girls now compete for the Division 2 Shield with Skerries Harps, O'Tooles, and Naomh Barrog in the same group. They play Skerries this coming Sunday at 17.00 in the semi final - apparently nobody thought about the other match in Croke Park! Clanna Gael Fontenoy 1-6 Templeogue Synge Stree 5-4.

A large and happy Clanns U-10 squad after two close hurling matches against Bray Emmets who also hosted a great kick fada event in which Milan Kalita was Clanns best performer.

U9s busy closing the gap

The U9 hurlers last played Commercials before the summer break away from home and in fairness we were all very impressed by the skill levels of many of the boys from this hurling-only club. Hosting them this time around it was good to see that the gulf has narrowed somewhat. When the game is played on the ground - as it is at this level for the first half our boys hold their own; but, apart from a small number, the gap in class opens up when the game switches to air hurling. The Green team, managed by Colm Mackey and Ken O'Byrne, had a tough time of it; and, while in contention at half time, saw the game slip away in the second half - under a barrage of some five or six points. Liam O'Laoide had a great game putting lots of effort in. However, theres still lots of room for improvement and practice across the squad. The Blue team, managed by Donough McDonough and Paul Keelan, had a closer match certainly competing hard all through the game and particularly in the second half. While the score line indicated a wide gap, the effort of the team certainly deserved praise. Barry Moylan had a great game in defence as always. So a case of a good bit done but lots more to do, with more training slots and practice at home definitely on the agenda. Next week its football away to St Patricks in Palmerstown.

U-12 hurlers top of the world almost

Following their emphatic win over league leaders, St Finians, in Sean Moore Park last weekend, Clanns now find themselves vying for top position with Ballinteer St Johns and with a game in hand. Having opted to play with a fairly brisk breeze in the first half, our boys held a half-time lead but one that looked vulnerable. Yet against all the odds not to mention the breeze - they produced an even stronger second-half performance to run out deserving winners. With Paddy McNamara and Conor Rimmer winning their fair share of ball in midfield, and Cian ORegan marshalling the defence, the platform was provided for the forwards to clock up the scores. And they duly obliged, particularly Des Duggan and Seamus McCann who was on loan from the U-11s. @Clannagaelfont
