Graphic Designer | Illustrator

Kevin Lahti is an aspiring graphic designer and illustrator and collector of obscure facts. Having recently completed his BFA in Interior Architecture from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. During his time at the university Kevin routinely undertook responsibilities for graphic design and branding for various projects in addition to his education in aspects of design. He was also responsible for desiging all graphic and printed materials for several design competitions entered by his peers including a Mock Firm competition in Chicago where in the university took home several accolades. In his senior year of university Kevin worked under a graphic designer working on projects for a local non profit. Under the supervision of this designer he redesigned all the collateral documents including business cards, letterhead, etc. During this time he also produced two mass mailed letter campaigns updating donors and trustees of events for the charity. A self proclaimed expert on Sherlock Holmes, Kevin employs Holmesian philosophy to tackle new challenges and by approaching a subject from an objective and observant manner he can tackle new concepts from a different perspective. This new perspective can encourage a radical change which brings out new and innovative ideas.

The Guilford Green Foundation is one of only 13 LGBTQ community foundations in the country. In the summer of 2012 they asked me to help redesign their branding and collateral materials. The charity already had a strong logo and colours, so taking these to heart I leapt into trying to create something that would draw attention.

Every other month the Guilford Green Foundation puts on Green Queen Bingo an event which draws out diverse groups of people together for a great night out. Each bingo event has a particular theme. The theme for November 2012 was Tabloids. The design examined popular tabloids from the US and UK and blended elements from each to create a postcard which was mailed out inviting all attendees to the event. The design is playful and presents the evening as an opportunity to experience some of the excitement.

In 2010 in anticipation of the City of Greensboros design of the Lake Jeanette Branch of the Greensboro Public Library. The Department of Interior Architecture at UNC Greensboro started a project to propose a redesign of a local branch. The branch selected was the Vance Chavis Branch on West Lee Street. As a part of that a book highlighting the research of the library system in Greensboro was created. Using a laser cutter the text for the cover was etched into the face and is open all the way to the first page where the table of contents are located.

During a design competition in Chicago my university entered several designs. During this time I was responsible for creating the branding guidelines and documentaion to accompany the students in the competion. Business cards, leave behinds, and an annual report were all produced for this project .
