Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) Of Powder Coating Materials
Introduction
This manual provides instructions to prepare samples for and subsequently perform a DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) test on thermoset powder coating materials. The DSC machine used in this instruction manual is the Perkin Elmer DSC-6. DSC tests are used to determine a number of temperature related physical properties of materials, such as Tg (glass transition temperature), degree of cure, and reaction onset temperature. Methods for the analysis of DSC results are beyond the scope of this set of instructions, and will be covered in a separate document. In order to perform the described task, minimal laboratory experience is necessary. The time to complete one full measurement cycle is approximately one half hour.
