Startup Aeration System For Powder Coolers

The document describes a startup aeration system for powder coolers that helps minimize downtime from plugging or crash stops. The system works by pressurizing air through outlets along the cooler periphery to re-aerate accumulated material, allowing the cooler to restart without tripping. It can reduce cleaning delays from hours to just minutes. The affordable system is easy to retrofit and requires only compressed air to operate for a few seconds as needed.

Startup aeration system for powder coolers

Reduce problems associated with crash stops and plugging Minimize downtime Avoid costly cleanout delays Easy retrofit to existing coolers Remote or local operation

I I I I

Every time a cement cooler plugs or needs to be cleaned out due to a system crash stop, the delays can be costly. Plugging due to power outages or erratic system operation typically required a cleaning crew to visit the cement cooler and vacuum out the accumulated cement. The associated downtime for this cleaning can be four hours or more in most cases. Even on a smaller mill circuit the costs add up fast. To minimize this problem, F.L.Smidth introduces the Powder Cooler Startup Aeration System, which will get you back up and running in minutes, not hours. The patent pending design utilizes a pressurized manifold attached to a series of outlets firing in an engineered pattern along the periphery of the cooler. The system re-aerates the material which accumulates in the cooler after a plug or crash stop, allowing the cooler drive to restart without tripping on high amps. In a matter of seconds the aeration system can be turned off and normal feed to the cooler can be resumed.

System Requirements
The Startup Aeration System can be provided on new powder coolers and is also easy to retrofit on existing coolers. Clean and dry compressed plant air is sufficient for system operation, general requirements are: 320 scfm @ 50 psig 540 m3/hr @ 350 kPa (Compressed air is required only for the few seconds the system is activated, not during normal cooler operation.) A single control circuit can initiate system operation remotely, or manual operation by means of a single air supply valve is also possible. The system requires no electrical hookup in the manual operating configuration. This inexpensive, proven solution can save tens of thousands of dollars per year by making clean-up costs and hours of lost production a thing of the past.
