Violent Videos

New research from Iowa State University provides evidence that violent video game exposure is a risk factor for criminal behavior and aggression in juvenile offenders, even after controlling for other risk factors. The study of 226 juvenile offenders found that both frequent playing of violent video games and affinity for violent games were strongly associated with delinquent and violent behavior in the past year. While violent video games are not the sole cause of violence, they appear to be one risk factor among many that can influence criminal behavior according to the researchers. The researchers recommend that parents be aware of what games their children are playing and how it may influence their behavior, especially for children who are already at risk.
