Note:- By default, the mirror command reverses all

the objects, excluding texts (AutoCAD 2004
only). But you may get the text reversed (written
backward). In such situation you should use the
system variable MIRRTEXT. This variable has
the two values :
1 = Text is reversed in relation to the original
object.
2 = Resists the text from being reversed with
respect to original object.
If you want reversed text, set the
MIRRTEXT variable to 1, before using
MIRROR command.

MVSETUP Command: MVSETUP

Command
• You can draw your drawing in any size by
changing the drawing limits. But if you
want to setup the sheet size, scale factor,
type of unit and also a border line it is
recommended to go through the MVSETUP
command. When you enter mvsetup at the ,
the prompts displayed depend on whether
you are on theModel tab (model space) or
on a layout tab (paper space).
• On the Model tab, you set the units type, drawing scale factor, and paper
size from the command line using MVSETUP. Using the settings you
provide, AutoCAD draws a rectangular border at the drawing limits.

• On a layout tab, you can insert one of several predefined title blocks into the
drawing and create a set of layout viewports within the title block. You can
specify a global scale as the ratio between the scale of the title block in the
layout and the drawing on the model tab. The Model tab is most useful for
plotting multiple views of a drawing within a single border. Let us consider
Model tab (model space) at first.

Command: MVSETUP

• These (Metric Scales) scale factors will show by AutoCAD. But it is not
necessary that you must have to use these scale factors. You can use your
own choice also.
Enter the scale factor: Enter the scale factor for the drawing
Enter the paper width: Enter the paper width
Enter the paper height: Enter the paper height

A3 420 × 297 16.5 × 11.7

A4 297 × 210 11.3 × 8.3

• If you want to work on layout tab (paper space) you have to
turn off the TILEMODE system variable. When you turn off
the TILEMODE system variable, the Page Setup dialog box
appears on the screen. Now setup the page size for the new
layout. To easily specify all layout page settings and prepare
your drawing for plotting, you can use the Page Setup dialog
box from File menu also, which is automatically displayed
when you select a layout in a new drawing session.
Or you can enter ‘Y’ or press ENTER at the Enter Paper Space
prompt in MVSETUP command.
PAN Standard toolbar:
Command Pull-down menu: View Pan
Command: PAN or P (‘PAN or P for
transparent use)
Shortcut menu: With no objects
selected, right-click in the drawing
area and choose Pan.

NOTE: You may want to view or draw on a

particular area outside the current viewport.
You can do this by using the PAN command. Pan
allows you to view different portions of your
drawing by moving the cursor, displayed as an
open hand, in any direction. After panning press
Esc or Enter or exit, or right-click to activate
pop-up menu, click on Exit.
LIMITS Pull-down menu: Format Drawing
Limits
Command Command: LIMITS

(NOTE: When you start AutoCAD, the

default limits are 12, 9. That means
your drawing area is 12 units along X-
axis and 9 units along Y-axis. You can
use the LIMITS command to change
your drawing area.)
Command: LIMITS
Reset Model Space limits:
Specify lower left corner or [ON/OFF] <0.0000, 0.0000>: Press ENTER to
accept default value or change it
Specify upper right corner <12.0000, 9.0000>: Press ENTER to accept default
value or change it

(NOTE: After changing the drawing limits you must have to go through the
ZOOM command with All option. Otherwise the changed limits will not
display on your screen.)
LAYER Layer toolbar: Layer Properties

Command Pull-down menu: Format
Layer . . .
Command: LAYER or LA

(NOTE: Layers are the equivalent of the

overlays used in paper-based
drafting. They are the primary
organizational tool in AutoCAD, and
you can use them to group
information by function and to
enforce linetype, color and other
standards. By creating layers, you
can associate similar types of objects
by assigning them to the same layer.)
OTHER COMMANDS:
• ID command (to know the actual co-ordinate of a point)
• DIST Command (you can measure the distance between two
points.)
• LIST Command (you can get information about one or more
object. The Command is asked for selecting the objects of
which you want a listing.)
• AREA Command (to know the area and perimeter of a closed
object./ to calculate the area and perimeter by giving some
points on your drawing.)
• VPORTS Command (to create multiple viewports in a
drawing.)
• ZOOM
