Cordwood Homes: Eco-Friendly Living

Cordwood construction involves stacking dried logs lengthwise and filling the center with insulation. Cordwood homes have several advantages: they are environmentally friendly using local materials, energy efficient due to thick insulated walls, and aesthetically pleasing with unique patterns in the walls. Cordwood homes can also be economical to build using local wood and labor. Disadvantages include requiring more time to build and many design decisions. When built properly using best practices, cordwood construction is a code-compliant building method that results in durable, efficient homes.
