2008 JETTA: NEW OPTIONS AND MORE HORSEPOWER
PROVIDE BETTER VALUE

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. For 2008 the popular Volkswagen Jetta comes with even
more horsepower, as well as a range of new features and option packages, that bring even
more value to the Jetta.
Standard for 2008 is the economical, yet powerful, 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine
that now delivers 170 horsepower and 177 lbs.-ft. of torque, compared to the previous
generation that delivered 150 horsepower and 170 lbs.-ft. of torque. Mated to the
standard five-speed manual transmission or the available six-speed automatic
transmission with Tiptronic

and sport mode, the Jetta delivers on performance and

efficiency.
With the five-cylinder powerplant, 0-60 miles per hour comes in 8.5 seconds with
the automatic, and 8.2 seconds with the manual transmission. The EPA-estimated fuel
efficiency is 29 miles per gallon on the highway and 21 mpg in the city.
For those looking deeper than vehicle performance data, the Jetta does not
disappoint. The 2008 Jetta comes with a host of dynamic safety features, including Anti-
lock Braking System (ABS), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Electronic Differential Lock
(EDL), Engine Braking Assist (EBA) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP), to name a
few. These dynamic safety features come as standard or as options on all Jettas and are
in place to help the driver when the situation warrants.

In addition to its active safety features the Jetta has a variety of passive safety
features, including standard driver and front passenger airbags, driver and front passenger
thorax airbags and Side Curtain Protection

. Rear passenger side thorax airbags also are

optional on all models.
In addition to efficiency, performance and safety, Volkswagen has outfitted the
Jetta to provide an environment that coddles the occupants with creature comforts. The
SEL model offers a standard premium sound system, an iPod adapter with the optional
navigation system, and a 115-volt power outlet. The Jetta comes standard with a Tire
Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and an auxiliary audio input jack.
While lots of cars are all talk, the Jetta backs it up with a variety of standard
technological advancements. All 2008 Jettas feature four-wheel independent suspension
and electromechanical steering that deliver a stable ride.
For drivers who want performance and value, all Jettas come equipped with five-
speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic

Sport mode is standard on the SEL and available as an option on the S and the SE
models. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels (available only on the SEL) and all-season
performance tires help round out the performance characteristics. The Jetta can be
tailored to suit the needs of individual owners through the new trim levels and stand
alone options offered, combining popular features and amenities that add safety, comfort,
convenience, an upgraded audio system sound and even sunshine, in the instance of a
power sunroof.
The Jetta comes with comprehensive standard equipment, including air
conditioning, cruise control, a CD player, traction control, four-wheel anti-lock disc
brakes, eight-way adjustable front seats with height, angle and lumbar support
adjustments, and a tilt-and-telescope steering wheel. Volkswagens six-speed automatic
transmission with Tiptronic and ESP are available as options.
