Societies Constitution

The INSERT NAME HERE Society is bound by the Activities Bye-laws of the LSE
Students Union.
Aims and Objectives
1. The Aims and Obectives of the Society shall be!

&. Associate membe$shi% may be offe$ed to non-Union membe$s.

Activities )ommittee of the Union.
*. Associate membe$s of the society may not stand o$ vote in society elections.
E*ecutive Committee
+. The Society shall have the followin( %ositions!
a. Cair+)resident( who shall,
- )onvene and chai$ Society meetin(s.
- Liaise with SU office$s and staff on all Society issues
- Be $es%onsible fo$ ensu$in( com%liance with all Union and School
%olicies and $e(ulations.
b. Treasurer( who shall,
- Administe$ and -ee% a $eco$d of the finances of the Society.
- Autho$ise all society e.%enditu$e.
- Be $es%onsible fo$ abidin( by Union financial %$ocedu$es.
c. Secretary( who shall,
- Act as liaison between the Society E.ecutive and #embe$s.
- Be $es%onsible fo$ sendin( out Society emails%
- Ta-e minutes of all Society )ommittee #eetin(s/ A0#s/ and o$dina$y

Elections
1. All %ositions will be elected at a 0ene$al #eetin(/ usually the A0#/ and will
se$ve until the ne.t A0#.
2. The Society A0# will ta-e %lace in #ichaelmas3Lent Te$m 1/E2ETE AS
A))RO)RIATE3%
4. A0# elections should occu$ no mo$e than 1 yea$ afte$ they we$e last held.
15. 6f any committee membe$ is elected at any time othe$ than the A0#/ 7i.e. at a
by-election8 they will se$ve until the ne.t A0# only.
11. Only %eo%le who a$e di$ectly elected by the society may be conside$ed
committee membe$s and the$efo$e be eli(ible to $eceive $oom boo-in( $i(hts.
1". 9otice of any 0ene$al #eetin( 7includin( the A0#8/ and the election
%$ocedu$es/ must be (iven to the membe$shi% at least '2 hou$s %$io$ to the
sta$t of the meetin(.
1&. To be eli(ible to vote/ membe$s must have been a fully %aid membe$ of the
society fo$ '2 hou$s %$io$ to the elections.
1'. Elections will be chai$ed by an out(oin( E.ecutive )ommittee membe$/ unless
they a$e a candidate in any election ta-in( %lace at the meetin( they a$e
chai$in(. Alte$natively a Students Union E.ecutive Office$ may be as-ed to
fulfil the $ole.

a''roved by Activities Assembly3 of the Societys membe$shi%. 6n the case
of <uo$acy not bein( met the meetin( should be %ost%oned and $ea$$an(ed in
consultation with the Activities and =evelo%ment Office$.
1+. Elections will be conducted by sim%le mao$ity votin( via a show of hands. At
the $e<uest of a membe$ a sec$et ballot may be used.
11. 6n the event of a tie/ a $e-count will be held, if the $esult is still a tie then the
$esult should be $e%o$ted to the Activities and =evelo%ment Office$ who will
ma-e a decision in consultation with the candidates.
12. >$io$ vettin( of candidates 7such as th$ou(h submitted )?s8 is st$ictly
%$ohibited.
14. 9o candidate may use the societys email list to cam%ai(n.
"5. 9ominations must be o%en to all membe$s %$esent at the election and no %$o.y
o$ advanced votin( is allowed.
"1. Should a candidate not be able to attend the election they may submit a s%eech
to be $ead on thei$ behalf/ but a$e not allowed to vote.
"". =is%utes su$$oundin( the inte($ity of the election/ should be di$ected to the
Activities and =evelo%ment Office$.
Motions of No-Confidence
"&. #otions of 9o-)onfidence to any membe$ of the )ommittee must be
submitted to the )hai$. 6f the motion $e(a$ds the )hai$/ it should be submitted
to the T$easu$e$.
"'. #otions of 9o-)onfidence must be submitted * days befo$e they a$e voted on.
The %$o%ose$ then has & days whe$ein they may withd$aw the motion.
"*. The full membe$shi% and the Activities @ =evelo%ment Office$ must be
info$med of a #otion of 9o-)onfidence '2 hou$s befo$e the meetin( at which
it is voted on.
"+. #otions of 9o-)onfidence $e<ui$e a "3&

mao$ity of those %$esent to %ass.
"1. )ommittee membe$s may $esi(n by submittin( a fo$mal $esi(nation in w$itin(
to the )hai$.
"2. Any )ommittee membe$ who fails to show u% to " consecutive )ommittee
meetin(s without (ivin( %$io$ a%olo(ies will be deemed to have $esi(ned thei$
)ommittee %osition.
Constitutional Amendments
"4. )onstitutional amendments must be %assed by a sim%le mao$ity vote of the
society committee. The new )onstitution o$ )onstitutional Amendment must
then be submitted to the Activities )ommittee fo$ a%%$oval.
&5. The new )onstitution o$ )onstitutional Amendment must then be %assed by a
sim%le mao$ity of membe$s at a Society 0ene$al #eetin(.
Students! $nion Elections
&1. Endo$sement of candidates in any Students Union election may only be
ca$$ied out afte$ a vote of the committee followin( a discussion of the
candidates manifestoes.
