KAPPA

This is a story that has spread in Japan for a long time. Its a sprite that live in the
water area such as river or lake and its called Kappa. The word Kappa comes
from Kawatar means "river-boy", or Komahiki horse puller. It has been
suggested that the kappa legends are based on the Japanese giant salamander
or "hanzaki", an aggressive salamander which grabs its prey with its powerful
jaws.
The most famous story about Kappa that has been around for a long time is
about a child called Kazuki. He was 7 years old when he was missing at the river.
One day, Kazuki was playing with his friends in the river. They swam happily,
when suddenly Kazuki felt someone pulled his feet from under the water. He
screamed and asked for help from his friends, luckily a man passed by the river
and helped him. The man told him not to play in the river again without telling
the reason. Kazuki was curious and asked his mother about it. His mother said
that it might be KAPPA. Mom had been told by your grandma not to play in the
river, because there might be a KAPPA. A creature that resembles human about
the size of a child. It has webbed hands and feet like frogs and it also has a
carapace like turtle and a beak like bird. KAPPA is so naughty. They like to pull
people to drown them, drink the blood and eat the organs. So you mustnt play in
the river again, say Kazukis mother. But, naughty Kazuki still played there with
his friends. Until, one day he really drowned and dead. His body could not be
found for a long time. When the body was discovered, the organs had gone and
no blood in the body.
Since then, there were many cases of KAPPA kidnapping children and killed them.
Thats why nowadays there are signs warning about kappa appear by bodies of
water in some Japanese towns and villages.
If someone meet Kappa there is a way to escape. You can bow to Kappa politely
and Kappa will bow to you too in return. By doing this, Kappa spill the water on
the top of his head and lose its magical power. Kappa become weak and you can
escape. When they are weak, you can also befriended with them. You can ask
them knowledge because it is believed that Kappa have so many knowledge and
smart. Kappa also can help farmer irrigate their land and Kappa used to send
some gifts such as fish to a family and it is said to bring good fortune for the
family.
There have been some encounters with these creatures over the years that
supposedly include visual sightings and scientific analysis of some bizarre and
unknown slime theyve left behind. So many people still believe in Kappa
because of the proof. But despite all of the proves, KAPPA is still a mythical
creature.
