Introduction
Nilgiris is South Indias leading chain of retail stores providing consumers a
shopping experience that hinges around freshness of produce, superior quality and
better value. From humble beginnings in the hills around Ooty and Coonoor at the
turn of the twentieth century, Nilgiris has grown from being a Dairy Farm
specializing in butter to a supermarket chain of over 134 stores spread across
Indias
southern
states.
It is the only supermarket chain that lays special emphasis on its own products, sold
under the brand name of Nilgiris 1905. With in-house capabilities centering on
Bakery and Dairy products, Nilgiris has grown to become a household name in the
south
with
consumers
spanning
successive
generations.
Group Business Structure in Brief
Nilgiri Group operates through its franchisee stores under the brand name Nilgiris
1905. Group has its own Dairy and Bakery manufacturing setup at Bangalore,
Bommesandra and Veersandra industrial area respectively. Milk and Dairy products
are processed and manufactured at Dairy unit and Bakery unit manufacture Bread,
cake, bun etc. Dairy and bakery products are sold under the brand name of Nilgiris
1905.

Operational Structure
Procurement of milk is done at milk collection centre through Own & agent. Milk
collected from remote areas is stored at chilling centre to preserve its freshness
from where it is transported to Dairy unit. Milk collection agent surrounding to dairy
unit directly transfer the milk to Dairy unit.
Bommesandra industrial area Dairy unit, process the milk on the basis of daily
demand. It collects the order in the day and produces during the day and dispatch
the same late night, generally dispatch start after 11 pm. Milk is sold to local milk
distributors to cater maximum number of houses. Other than milk, rests of products
are sold majorly at Nilgiris store.
We have a repacking center at Bommesandra industrial area and Chennai for
Staples and FMCG products which procure the staples and FMCG in bulk. These are
repacked under the brand name of Nilgiris 1905 under different size. Packed
material transferred to distribution centre (DC) from where entire dispatch is
managed.
At Veersandra Industrial area bakery unit produces bakery items on the basis of
daily demand except few long shelf life products like cookies and cakes etc. Bread is

catered through local agents to reach out individual households. All other products
are sold majorly under Nilgiris stores.
