About Amateur (HAM) Radio
Amateur Radio is a scientific hobby of experimentation with wireless
technology by individuals and clubs in their spare time. Hams (as the
licensed Radio enthusiasts are called) have invented new radio
circuits, techniques, modulation methods, built their own satellites
and launched successful careers.
Steve Jobs was a ham. He attributed his interest in electronics and
computers to being a ham. Most astronauts are hams as well. So were
many Nobel laureates!
Amateur Radio has also helped in many disaster situations where the
hams were challenged to create communication system from very
meager resources
Workshop Details:
To obtain an amateur radio license in India one has to pass an exam
conducted by the Ministry of Communications (Amateur station
operator's License exam ASOL). Those who qualify this test are issued
call-signs and the license to use amateur wireless bands free of cost.
This two-day workshop will prepare the participant to write the ASOL
exam. The workshop is an engaging review of basics of electronics
and communications, operating procedures, Morse codes etc.
Starting from the basics of electronics, The workshop covers how the
wireless communication system works - receivers, transmitters,
antennas and then the jargon used by radio operators to
communication, operating ethics, rules and general information. The
course material will be supplied.
About the Speaker:
R. J. Marcus, VU2VTM is a veteran radio amateur(HAM), with decades
of experience in mentoring young people into the wireless world. His
teaching methods are very simple and engaging. He has conducted
workshop for thousands of hams across India. At our request, he is
travelling from Bangalore for this workshop.
