Nature of WorkDuring the course of Internship, I have been given the task of Inventory Management in
which I have to take care of inventories of apparels & accessories. I have been given details
of inventories and the guidelines for its management. Mainly, I have to checklist each and
every item and if an items inventory goes down by 85%, I have to forward the details to
purchase department for its purchase. Even I work as a Fashion Consultant in which I assist
customers to go for products which suits them best.
Also, we were in the process of Research design, data collection and its analysis.
RESEARCH METHOD & DESIGN
The process of gathering, analyzing and interpreting information about a market, about a
product or service to be offered for sale in that market, and about the past, present and
potential customers for the product or service; research into the characteristics, spending
habits, location and needs of your business's target market, the industry as a whole, and the
particular competitors you face.
The research design refers to the overall strategy that you choose to integrate the different
components of the study in a coherent and logical way, thereby, ensuring you will effectively
address the research problem; it constitutes the blueprint for the collection, measurement, and
analysis of data.
COLLECTION OF DATA
We had to visited the various stores, who were our competitor and had to do market survey
about the products they were providing and compare the services same time. Also primary
data was collected with the help of questionnaires provided by the company. The
questionnaire consisted of multiple choice questions, close ended questions, open ended
question, so as to gain the information from the respondent. The secondary data was collected
through various websites, books, journals, etc.
POPULATION
The study aims at total number of apparel stores in Jamshedpur city
TECHNIQUE OF SAMPLING
Random sampling technique is used.
SAMPLING METHODS
1. Sample unit - Retail Outlets
2. Sample size - 1000 respondents.
3. Method -
Direct interview through questionnaire, and some-time just a market
survey.
4. Area -
Jamshedpur [Jharkhand]
DATA ANALYSIS
In the view of present study, the required data was collected through structured questionnaire
designed by the company. The data so collected was processed manually by editing coding and
tabulating. For analyzing the data, various statistical techniques was used to draw meaningful
results. The data, after collection, was processed and analyzed in accordance with the outline laid
down for the purpose at the time of developing the research plan. This was essential for a scientific
study and for ensuring that we had all relevant data for making contemplated comparisons and
analysis. Once the necessary data was collected, the next task was to aggregate the data in a
meaningful manner. The research team then worked on the collected data and provided analysis in
the form of graphs and pie-charts which was used by the company to develop its sales and generate
revenue accordingly.
DATA COLLECTION CONSTRAINTS
There were many problems regarding the collection of primary data which were as follows:
1
As the questions were filled during working hours, the respondents had little time to devote
for filling the questionnaires.
Some respondents did not have their serious attitude towards the questionnaire and hence
their responses may not reflect the real picture.
Some of the respondents were not candid enough to reveal all the required information. They
might have given inflated or wrong data.
The survey was conducted in the nearby area thus the respondent belonged only to this region
of country. This could have brought biasness into the study.
However all the efforts were made to remove the biasness but it cannot be denied that there is
no possibility of individual biasness on the part of respondent.
LEARNING FROM INTERNSHIP
Inventory management - They have taught me how to manage the inventory. Also, how to
manage the stock room and the stock on the floor.
Dealing with customers - They also taught me of to deal with customers, how to increase the
sales, how to create a prospect to customer.
Proper management of store
Proper display of product and proper visibility of the product list.
Also I went to stores of competitors of Levis and compared the products among them as in
price, in quality etc.
